So, my WRUW posts will need to be run on archive pictures for now. Upgraded my otherwise trustworthy iPhone5 to Apples latest release 8.3 resulting in a black screen and sluggish camera apps whenever the back (main) camera is activated. The front camera seems still to work..... Any others have this issue? My iPhone5 is a very early model. My wife have the same model, but it is slightly newer. Not the same problem with her camera after upgrading. Been Goggling around on the subject and it is obviously not only me having experienced this. Conclusion so far: DO NOT UPGRADE TO iOS8.3 IF YOU DON'T REALLY NEED TO!
Conclusion: do some elementary troubleshooting. Restore the phone using a cable and iTunes and I bet it's fixed. Tom
Answer to that is NO! There is no way to restore this except downgrading the phone to a previous iOS version. That is also possible, but is a quite advanced hack. According to info found on the Apple iOS community forums the problem seems only to be related to certain iPhone5 versions. Some have pointed to that certain new functions related to focusing that was introduced are creating problems with the camera module on certain (early?) iPhone5. As usual Apple is ever quiet and does not give any hints as to what they intend to do. A version 8.3.1 or 8.4 is the best hope!
I should perhaps note that I have a background in systems and electronics designs. I have gone the path from building my own controller units, programmed stuff in Assembly and is now technical head of my own company who supplies advanced computer based control systems. "Elementary troubleshooting" has long since been tried before posting this warning.
Hi Northernman. I am just about to update my phone, I'll let you know how it goes. The thing is I don't like iPhones anyway, so if all goes tits up it it'll be a good excuse to go back to my old Nokia!
I loved my old Nokias, and I only went iPhone when they started messing around with MS Windows Phone OS. If there is one thing I sincerely despise its anything to do with MS Windows! I actually like the iPhone and the Apple universe of products. Loads less issues than I ever have with all different Windows products. Maybe I need to use this as an excuse to upgrade to an iPhone6..... Initial plan was to hold on to the 5er until the next revision of the 6 lands later this year.
Many problems unfortunately with the latest iPhone upgrade, thankfully not personally but daughter has "lost" a bundle of images with Photos and iCloud.
Those issues have also been reported, however I think they might still be available in the iCloud even if you can not see them on the phone anymore.
Well unfortunately the upgrade worked fine with my phone, so it looks like I am stuck with it for another wee while. I think mine is possibly a 5s, it was my daughter's old one so I'm not sure.
I think this may only apply to certain early iPhone5. I got mine only days after it was released over here. My better half has a much newer iPhone5 (same spec). That have not suffered any issues like mine.
Both are iPhone5 (no s). Difference is that mine is original and early shipment. Her's was replaced under warranty about a year ago so I assume the firmware and components on that one is much more recent than mine.
