Great contribution to the forum! 👍

If you want to continue to bait and pick fights I will gladly comply. Why not simply take your lumps like a man and let it go?

Anyway @janice&fred, thanks for posting. As a newbie it’s nice to see examples of different models and as I learn I can come to my own conclusions about what I think is attractive and desirable.

What’s that? The conversation’s moved on? Oh, sorry. My bad.

My friend tried to climb into a washing machine at a house party years ago and got stuck half way in. True story

One night, after many nights at sea, and on a mid watch shift (about 02:00) we had consumed a few brews while on laundry party in the ship's laundry on a "very big grey ship".

I dared my mate to take a ride in the commercial spin dryer (about 4 feet in diameter). He was up for it (or course! What could possibly go wrong!).

He climbed in, I lowered the cover plate, locked it and hit "RUN".

I think the only thing that saved his life, and saved me from the brig, was the fact that the balance sensors were calibrated for a ship at sea, not a land based laundry, so they triggered at a much lower centrifugal imbalance.

After throwing up in the spin dryer he grabbed another beer and we cleaned everything up and said to each other:

"This must never be spoken of again!".

You guys figure out if this is a true story or not.

So here’s my .02 on the OP watch which Fred was feeling nice enough to share (must have had his double mocha-chino double crunch enema today).

The dial itself looks original to me, the gilt numerals, lume plots, and dial patina (cough-damage-cough) are consistent with the age of the watch. The Seamaster text is close but as mentioned is a little heavy handed and the back curve of the “m” and lack of dropped “r” are inconsistent with others of this era- but that’s not to say it didn’t happen. Remember, these dials were contracted and there are some variations- some.
Cases get polished- if a watch has been in the world before 2000 when collectors actually started paying attention to originality, then it got polished as part of regular service. The ones we see that never got hit with a polishing wheel were either safe queens or never got serviced...and in the case of the later- I would be worried about the movement at that point. Let’s leave the polished debate for TRF, they like to break out the calipers on every set of lugs they see.

As for the watch esthetically, it’s not a common dial variation, although not rare, and it’s got a fairly even patina which can be seen as attractive. So if anyone were interested in picking up a nice well worn Seamaster for a couple hundred (would not pay more), then Fred told ya where to get one.

Enjoy the day everyone.

It is, without a shadow of doubt, 100% a story 👍

We are talking about Seamen from Australia- I wouldn’t put anything past them!

Oh just wait until I start posting pics of various old watches I spot in my daily travels around the tri-state area. Practically every town in this locale has at least one antique/used/junk shop type joint and I regularly stop at them all. Most will find my treasure hunt reports at least mildly interesting but guaranteed it will bring out the worst in a few 😁

If people are wondering... @Spacefruit asked me to delete the post where I was claiming to be him. If there's still doubt. I'm @Shabbaz ... I dont like vintage speedmasters. I think they are overpriced and they all look the same...

I would be against that, as I’d like to hear more stories about drunk sailors in industrial equipment

Hi Everyone ...

We are now done with this ....

FYI the Seamaster 2577 in the original post in my opinion is all original.... aged worn.... from the straight on photo cant say was polished or not. also saw pics of the movement on MWR... Super clean the case did its job in protecting the movement.

I am locking this thread and actually disappointed in some the memebers comments and digs.. as this is not typical .....

regards
Bill
