I recently came into possession of a Mark 2 matte GMT from the original owner, a former USAF pilot, who bought it as a Christmas present for himself in 1973. He had the forethought to save the original paperwork - though not the original bezel (which was replaced at a service in 1981) - and the guarantee has an uncommon version of the "punched" serial number. Instead of the usual 4x6 hole punched digits, it has an embossed script. I thought I'd share this since these are not common but correct for the early 1970's. Bill on watchprosite put together a great primer on the variations of Rolex paperwork from 1960-90, it's definitely something to bookmark for reference. Based on his work, this embossed variation is seen occasionally on 2.6m-4.xm guarantees. I'd be remiss to not include a few pictures of the watch it came with. Soon to have a period correct FF bezel on it.
