Instinctive Kick Reflex

Let me explain. First off, very clumsy and don't baby my watches. Hence, why I prefer diver watches I guess (mostly Omega and Seiko) due to their robustness.

Can't count how many times when handling my watches; while putting them away, putting them on/off, or winding them — they slip away and I drop them. That's when without any thought I put my foot to save them. Sometimes they are kicked closely, and other times they bounce off the foot, and then the floor. They still hit the floor, but the speed and force is drastically reduced by the slight kick. I check accuracy the next few days, and luckily the movement still runs fine.

The only time when I dropped my watch and did not manage to put my foot under the watch was with my SARB017 Alpinist from a two-meter fall. It started to run five minutes a day. Sent it for service, where my watchmaker said the balance wheel got screwed from the fall.

I usually try to put on/off my watches over a sofa/bed, but sometimes I ignore this. Guess it's a good habit for clumsy folks like myself.

Anyone else have that instinctive kick save their watch movements from falls?

Sometimes I’ll kick an Invicta if I see someone wearing it in public. But for me, I put my watches on or set the time either over my bed or while sitting on my couch.

Never yet happened with a watch but did once instinctively kick at something that a friend and I dropped. unfortunately it weighed around 200kg and thus my instincts resulted in multiple broken bones in my foot. A Lesson learned the hard way 🙁

I have saved many an item by reflexively getting a foot under the object. The one time I dropped a watch, was recently, when I dropped my Sub, but failed to get my foot there in time. Maybe a 3 foot drop on the floor, but no harm fortunately.

I usually do that, although I don't remember if it ever happened with a watch. I tend to put them on over the bed.

I also do the opposite whenever a knife or blade falls. I hope I don't mix the motions when I get older.

Yeah, when I drop a watch I'm like Diego Maradona receiving a ball at terminal velocity and gently cushioning it to the ground.

This. And if my cat-like reflexes kick in, I'll save it with the Hand of God ::psy::
