Hi all, as a starting collector I've been considering a 145.022 speedmaster for a while now. I recently came across this listing on eBayPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network of a Speedmaster 145.022-69: http://www.ebay.com/itm/262768006496?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:ITPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

I've done some research myself, and it seems to check the right boxes:
    - original 'step' dial
    - non-DON bezel (which some 145.022-69 apparently had)
    - correct straight-writing case back

However, I wanted to run this speedmaster by you guys before bidding on it. What do you think: would this be a good first speedmaster professional for me?

    Thanks!

Look fine to me. The seller's is correct regarding the ok movement number. Only issue is that, from the pics, the pushers seem slightly different in size. Should be easily correctable as the 5mm pushers are available for the 145.012. Good luck

im always bias looking for an appropriate bracelet that goes with it, instead of an isolated head, to really see the real value of the watch. i know it can be a separate item, but im more at ease without dealing with a new wtb situation once it is delivered. looks authentic to me though.

Nothing wrong with the watch, but why buy from eBay when plenty come up here for sale from reputable members?

    Best of luck to you.

    Glad you did it first

I did a lot of reading around this 18 months ago and I understood that 1974 was the earliest use of a Delrin brake .... do you know something more that takes the date back?

the Delrin is most likely a service part.

Question for the cognoscenti .... I've not seen a bezel with this kind of scarring before. The marks look deep yet the metal isn't showing - so has this bezel been repainted or repaired in some way?

    Here's what I'm looking at:

My French extends to buying a beer or getting directions to the train station (strangely, I've never been to a French train station) ... but I've noted it and will try to read some in the future.

It's also available in English if you look hard enough.

There is something about bidding in an auction that is quite exciting (and maybe addicting)...at least that's how I feel and why I keep going back to eBay, but I agree that it is a much safer bet to buy from a reputable member here. Here is one that just popped up here by the way...

My guess it's wear from long sleeve shirts as you can see it's lighter on the edges. You see it most on early DNN bezels. They are called ghost bezels. My -76 is similar

It's not the ghosting that struck me but the deep scratches that almost look like they've been painted over .. .maybe I'm reading too much into one photo

Nope the picture you posted looks normal to me. I posted a high contrast shot. The deeper scratches in mine are still grey colored.

Watch looks good. Looking at the current price, and projecting what it'll sell for, you may want to consider cheaper alternatives for your first Speedy. But by all means, if you love it - go for it!
