Inherited Seamaster Geneve

Hello all
Greetings from Australia

I have recently inherited this watch from my late grandfather. Was hoping for some information on vintage, authenticity, and possible insurance value.

what I do know is is was presented to him in 1971 after 25 years service at a local brewing company.
My dad has had it for the last 15 years sitting in a draw . I鈥檝e had it for 3 days now and it has kept perfect time.

Any information the brains trust from this excellent forum would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Definitely get it serviced before running it much more. The rotor is rubbing on the caseback, and the movement looks a little dirty. Find a watchmaker who can service this for you; the Australian forum members can probably steer you to a couple.

Looks like a good honest watch. The 552 is one of my favourite movements but seem prone to rotor axle wear.

Get it serviced, maybe a new crown and unless that Fixoflex bracelet is an Omega (I don't think it is, wrong end links) then take it off and get a nice leather strap.

I can't remember who I used, maybe it was Birkett Watches, Room 407, Level 4, 38 Gawler Place.

Get a quote from them, and Richard McMahon at 9/118 King William St, and maybe try the people at 4th floor/33 Pirie St.

Visit them if you can and get a feel for how they treat you and what they suggest.

It's a plated watch so no polishing, I'd suggest a basic service only and new rotor bushing/axle (whichever is worn) new caseback seal and a new crystal if that one isn't an Omega original (I can't see an 惟 in the centre). Maybe a new crown if you've got any money left 馃榿.

I have the same reference with calendar, 166.041, caliber 565, Geneve without Seamaster, lots better condition. I couldn't give it away for $495. Sorry.

I've got no idea what they charge these days, I've been servicing my own for a few years.

Due to your watch having a damaged dial and being gold plated, and being a model that isn't sought after by collectors, the value will be low and the cost of a service will probably be greater than the value of the watch.

But it's not all about money is it?

Congrats on your inherited watch !

Mine bought 2 years ago for about 200 USD in Vietnam but in less desirable condition. Ref 166.041 cal 563 Geneve collection.

Yours is more sentmentally valuable.

Hope it helps

Thanks again for your wisdom, I think for now I will just enjoy wearing it as is but will definitely service in the near future.

not about the money at all I will be keeping it, just wasn鈥檛 sure if I needed to add to insurance policy

browsing this forum has absolutely sparked my interest in these vintage beauties, will be on the lookout to add to the collection.
