Google longines serial number table, it will pinpoint the year of manufacture.

As far as value it depends how much you cared for the person you inherited it from. I’m so sorry for your loss.

Thank you for your promt and nice answer!
My words were probably not chosen too carefully.
My Dad is still alive, but he gave me his watches because his eyesight became so weak,
that he has no use for them anymore.
Anyways I am not planning to sell them, basically I am curious since I am very new to the Universe of watches.
Just dicovered a few months ago. Then started with a ML Masterpiece Automatic with Moonphase and Day / Date. But after wearing it did not suit me at all...
So next purchase was a Speedy Pro Straight Back which makes me completely happy and gives me a smile everytime I take a look ;)
And as you all know youselves too well, once you start..... ;)

    Hi Alex.

Unfortunately, you won't find the year the serial number correlates to that way. In 1969 Longines restarted it's serial numbers at 50,000,000 and there's no table from that time on. However, that has a caliber 990 inside a case reference 4394 (the 1 means it's the first version of that model number) which would make it a mid- to late-70's watch.

This is what happens when you only care for 40s~50s Longines watches, you lose tracks of small details like that :D

    Lemania 8810
    micrometer regulator
two serially coupled barrels, one with fixed spring, one with slip spring
    equivalent to Longines 990.
    ...
    ...
When introducted in 1977, the 990 with all features was the thinnest automatic movement with date and sweep second; even in 2003 it is only underscored by movements without date and/or sweep second.
