    Hi guys.

New to this forum, and snazzy watches in general (I'm more of a G-Shock guy due to always breaking watches).

I inherited a Speedmaster Professional and I'm just fairly curious as to getting more information on it. I tried doing some reading but soon realized I was way out of my depth.

I was advised to ask about it here before I did anything as I was planning on getting it cleaned and possibly refurbished which was met by gasps and screams of horror... My bad.

I have only taken these 3 images, but would be able to take more if required when back from work this evening.

    Sorry one more question.

I have also inherited a Vintage Rolex that was my Grandathers, which like the Speedmaster I would like to learn more about.

Could I ask on the Rolex sub forum here, or is my query better directed to another Forum?

    Thanks!

Looks like it's an early 70's (possibly 145.022-71) reference.

It looks largely original. Is there any colour to the hour markers (pale yellow?) or are they white?

What country are you in? The key is getting a full movement service and case clean while not replacing or polishing any of the original cosmetic parts.

That looks like a slant dial rather than step so my guess is -74 or -76, though it is hard to tell with some of these from photos.

I’d say ask here. There are some pretty experienced Rolex guys on OF.

The markers look white to off white to me, but I also thought they might be long dead tritium vials, but I haven't found any reference to Speedmasters having the above mentioned.

I'm located in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Being the hugely impatient type... do you know what model it was ?

    Explorer, Submainer, GMT, etc

Try and take some better pics if the dial so we can see if there is a step st the inside edge of the hour markers.

@Davidt I thought it looked like a step at first glance too, but it's a dome dial and the lighting just shadow's it kind of like its a step. That makes it a -74 or -76.

Hopefully there's some lume on that dial!... @Stevin, do the lume plots have any glow whatsoever when you shine a light on the dial and then quickly turn the lights off?

    Yeah, I’m betting -74 or -76.

My money, given the bezel fade, is on 145.022-74.
