Inexpensive Pickup: Cool Vetta with Scientific Dial

New pickup in Florence, in a little watch shop outside the center: a Vetta manual wind, “chronometre” on the dial, though I have my doubts, not steel case (chrome?), blued steel hands, and a very cool “scientific dial” with paint but no lume. I love the numeral fonts. Came on a new, soft Italian leather band. Small (32.5) but wears large. Two-tone dial that continually changes as the light strikes it at different angles. At a price in the low 3 digits €, it’s nice to know there are still cool, inexpensive watches out there. The only sour note—it was a pleasant transaction which made me inclined not to bargain (sucker), and I was told it was recently serviced, and it even came with a little warranty card, but a day later it had lost 6 hours and my watchmaker told me it had not been serviced in many years, dry and dirty. I will not be back in Florence for a long time, so I’ll just forget the warranty and chalk it up to experience. I still love the watch.

Any ideas what the case might be made of?

Just based on those photos, it might be re-plated with chrome.
