Delighted with my first pie pan dog leg steel 168.005 from nanjingcigaretes. Great guy to deal with and all very smooth.

I had been holding out for one with Arabic gold indices, but really love the elegant restraint of this design, and how the faceted indices catch the light. Looks even nicer than I thought in the metal.

Pretty optimistic the inserts are onyx, but interested if anyone is sure. Nice to have an omega symbol on the glass!

May well upgrade the strap.

Congratulations.
Your inserts are definitely onyx - they have depth to them and a ridge.
painted indices have no depth and are flat.

edit to clarify
The paint on painted indices has no depth to speak of.

A nice watch - and your pics are excellent.

Too often we see an OP asking for advice on the basis of dull, crappy images. You obviously took the time (and skill) to give us high quality images. Thanks for your contribution.

Well, apparently according to Omega-Enthusiast, Omega also used a 3rd option - rubber blocks - so just because its a block ( instead of a thin painted strip), doesnt mean its onxy

Please see below test to confirm

I had seen that claim in a previous thread.

I don’t know what evidence/proof the author has but as far as I’m aware they are the only person in the Omega collecting world to profess this theory.

The ‘reflection test’ they mention is done using the fat, flat onyx inserts used on Constellation deluxe dials.
reflections on a ridged insert would be more difficult to see, so I don’t see that as a reliable test in my book.

I could be wrong but I don’t think any of the long term collectors, or any info from Omega, have corroborated the use of rubber inserts.
This doesn’t mean it didn’t happen, Omega may have tried using some kind of hardened rubber before/after moving to paint - but I’d like to see the hard evidence.
The other black material recorded to be used by Omega is ‘jet’ - a semi-precious stone, which is essentially hardened coal.

a call out to some long-in-the-tooth collectors for their input:

@Peemacgee I hear you. And indeed, i tried this theory with all 3 of my connies that have onyx markers - but 1) none of the hands are long enough to pass over the onxy batons and 2) the onyx is faceted - so making it doubly difficult to see any reflection anyway!!!!

Well I was just comparing it with my centenaire. Actually the centenaire stands up quite well at 33% of the price. Dial is actually slightly better condition. The 1428 u seems rock solid.

however the dial design on the Eterna is nowhere near, and I always wanted a 564 omega
