·It has been too long since I have posted. Many photos after my ramblings. OK, after my house fire, I was forced to sell a couple watches. I was my own prime contractor and found it necessary to turn them to keep the project moving forward until more insurance money arrived. I mentioned regrets in the header, I was very attached to my Air King and my Speedmaster, and I know they both went to good homes, but it was what is was. I have no regrets.
Watches have come and gone. Many members would need an abacus to calculate how many watches have passed through their hands over the years. Given the variety of our group, I can speculate that a few members actually know how to use an abacus.
Today I decided that It was time to add another grail piece. Out with the old, and in with the new. But a goodbye seems appropriate. I mentioned regrets as well, there were two watches that I truly regret letting go of. I bid and did well on a vintage gold nugget Bulova at a charity auction. That watch that started it all. Later, I was a bit overzealous selling of all my solid gold Bulovas from the first couple years of collecting to fund a refined taste developed in this forum. The other was a Rolex Date 1500 with a Shantung dial. Loved the watch, even the manual set date. Sold it to buy the Speedmaster. Strange how things are connected. But the past is in the past and still loving all that is involved with our shared pastime. I have waxed on long enough. Time for Show and Tell.
Goodbye, Speedmaster Reference 3572.50.00.
Goodbye, Rolex Air King Reference 116900.
Hello, Grand Seiko Reference SBGA003, 9R65-A00A (need two links, but the price was right).
Wish you were here, Rolex Date 1500 Shangtun, & Bulova Accuquartz "Alaskan Gold Nugget," Ref. Style 742, Caliber 2242 (Quartz Hybrid Tuning Fork)
A reconstruction update. I am 90% done with repairing my home and the completion date has moved from May '25 to July '26. We have taken a break over the winter. I have a lot of friends in the trades and they have made my budget go far enough to build a home to be proud of. On the health front, there is no permanent damage from my burned breathing passage. I am happy to be here, literally, and here figuratively. Feel free to respond with photos of watches that fall into any categories above.
