this is may be a 3rd time I bought a Citizen. As a devoted buyer of vintage gold Rolex watches this one appealed to me. Citizen made in early 1960s. Auto Dater 7 with a 25 jewels automatic movement. The case it quite big for that period measuring 38 mm across. It has many similarities to Rolex Day Date from that period. The general shape of the case, pie pan dial with gold applied faceted hour markers, the day aperture with a magnifying lens, the hands, the faceted bezel, all these combined in one piece clearly shows where the influence was coming from. The case is gold filled with a rich gold color approximating 18K gold color and it is in great condition especially considering that the watch is over 50 years old. The bracelet is also in great condition. This watch has a quickset date change feature which works similar to some other watch from that period. By pulling the crown out to second position the date will change and jump to the next. It can be repeated until the desired date is reached.
That rotor design is way out there. Must run on a circular ball race. At least that's one way of eliminating rotor axle failure, a very clever solution!
I've seen one like the below but forgot to take pictures of. At least VC also has movements with rotor like this as well.
Wow. Just wow. I have a citizen...but it's an eco drive, for those days when I forget, am too lazy, or don't have time to wind up one of my mechanicals!
Carl F. Bucherer has a modernized version of that perimeter rotor - the CFB A1000. http://www.carl-f-bucherer.com/en/technology/ You have to jump to 1:30 to get past the silly stuff and into the less silly stuff: Love it - Citizen AutoDater........ by Hanna Barbera!
The first Seiko automatic I recall seeing, possibly during the late 1950s had a similar rotor arrangement, as I recall. I think they were not an immediate success because Seiko didn't become a major factor in the Candian watch market until probably the late 1960s. In all the years that have elapsed since I saw that first one, I have never seen another a Seiko like it. Whether it was made by Seiko, I am unable to say. In my decades old Seiko materials catalog, these early calibres don't even show up.
