…should the crown be fitted flush against the case? Or does it not significantly affect anything, and close is good enough?

But wouldn’t it be more dust proof flush against the case?

It needs to be able to move a little, having it right up against the "heel / hilt" of the crown, is not letting the setting leaver (and spring) or the seals do their job correctly, but it's not the end of the world if it's up to the hilt.

You don’t want to attract, body oil, dead skin, dirt, etc (you know “gunk” ) between the two.

If it's flush to the case it will work fine for the setting lever, etc. The only time it would cause a problem there is if the stem is cut too short. The seal will also work just fine.

There's nothing wrong with the way it is though...

Hey guys, sorry to bring up an old thread here but I also just got a genuine 24 tooth crown installed on my ed white and it has a very similar gap.

Are you all in agreement that we’re all good here (eg: no excessive water resistance issues? Though I know WR is not really a thing for these vintage speeders). Just want to be sure before requesting any further repairs.

The seal in that crown is so old that it likely won't seal anything anymore anyway, so not a problem.

That is bizarre. I literally just finished a treatment with a patient, who forgot her checkbook, and asked me if I take, “Zelle.” I said, Zell? Zell? The Vassa Angel?” Blank stare. I said, “What, you never saw Marathon Man?”

Appreciate it guys... so what you're saying is that whether this crown was completely flush or in the position that I photographed here, the practical implications are effectively the same, correct?
