🫨🫨🫨 you've ruined my life with this information. I'll never be able to wear this watch again.

🍿
You can send it to me and I'll dispose of it out of the goodness of my heart.😗

You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar! As soon as I get through Proust's À la recherche du temps perdu I'll ship this off to you.

OBs and ADs are supposed to retain the tags and discard them , it is not intended to be given to the consumer. If you specifically ask to keep the tag, and are a known customer, they usually allow it, but it is not the default. I have the tag for most of my Omega, but on a few, I forgot to ask.

As the hang tag has the serial number of the watch it’s just another layer of protection and authenticity of the watch.

This is correct, most dealers retain them, I don't know if Omega suggests they do this or if dealers just do it in order to help their inventory control, but you usually won't get it unless you ask and then you'll usually be told they need to retain it. Nice to get, but not important if you don't.

When they used to use the plastic coffin the hang tag was snapped to the outside of the coffin, the red cards and the watch were in the coffin. This is how my A11 50th came, direct from the OB and the coffin had only been opened to date the warranty card.

This thread reminds me of the scene in "The Red Violin" where the lot number hangtag falls to the floor. Lot 72 as I recall.

Is it a problem I could solve by handing you a glass of whiskey?
I never had a problem with missing hang tags until now! Especially if you’re handing out free whiskey to those suffering from a lack of hang tags!

Old Rip Van Winkle do the trick or do we need to pull out the Islay scotch?

If you’ve got any of the Caol Ila 35-year-old that they released in 2018… uh, I have an issue with missing hangtags too.

At what point is the Hang tag even added? Does it come with the watch from the factory, or does the boutique or dealer add it?

If a watch was specifically ordered for a customer or if a watch had literally just arrived when it was purchased, would it have a tag? My 75th anniversary heritage was like this and I never saw a tag.

Curious when the tag is part of the process.

The only practical reason for the hang tag is the price. So if your sales associate knows you, and the watch is something you specifically asked for, no need to have a price tag on it. You either already know the price or you're such a regular that price clearly doesnt matter

Absolutely critical, IMO.

Otherwise the crappy baggie I have somewhere in a drawer containing the hangtags from various watches I have owned and moved on or still own would be emptier and still less useful than it is.

I don't sell many watches, but I don't think I've had anyone, even with a pricier model, demand a hangtag prior to a sale. And nothing I've bought recently from a Longines to a Chopard, has come with one. I have noticed that dealers who specialize in preowned try to include them when they can, so perhaps it's a concern with trade ins.

That sounds absolutely delicious.

I’ll say the Islay

Ya'll have good taste. about the most ridiculous Islay I've ever had in my cabinet was a Laphroaig 30 year old that I paid $125 for in 2008. Whiskey prices have gotten so out of control over the last decade or so, that my collecting tapered way off!

I've been fortunate to have all of my hangtags, but the OBs have made it very clear that they are supposed to keep it. Luckily, I have great relationship with OBs over the years, so it has never been an issue for me! I keep the hang tags with the rest of the paperwork if I ever do decide to let one of my watches go. It's not 100% needed, but it certainly helps.

As I have no intention in selling my watches, I have no interest in nonsense like hang tags, which in itself sounds like a bit like euphemism for the dags of shit hanging from a sheep’s arse

Hang tag is only important for Rolex flippers. For everyone else, it simply goes in the trash.

This is true. They are quite serious about this. The flipper/wannabe grey called me saying he couldn't find the hang tag in the complete set I handed him a little earlier at the bank. He is so persistent about it. I just wanted to end the call so told him that if I find it at home, I will mail it to him. He calls me back after 10 mins saying never mind, I found it in the passenger seat of his car. :whipped:

You’re right about that. I remember the first time I got a bottle of Balvenie 21 port wood—an absolutely gorgeous bottle of whisky, but nothing rare: I paid something like $65 at duty free. You’re lucky to find the same label now (from a reputable retailer) for less than $300. It’s absurd.

… not that this is a thread about whisky.

That was a nice drop - I bought mine in 2007...long one now...
