I like these of late, as an intellectual exercise, because Mrs S is making unhappy noises about the # of watches in my fleet. So this is easy. My very first Omega and very first vintage watch: View attachment 824023 View attachment 824020
Much as I love my PO 8500, the PO 2500 would always be the last man standing, 11 years on and it's still the one that does it for me the most.
It is my first, I love it's sound and it will always be my first Omega Constellation cal 751 COSC 1968 168.029
I recently sold what was my only Omega (a 1962 Seamaster) as it just didn't sit right on my wrist... Since then I've been happy with zero Omegas in my collection and was pretty sure I would carry on like that (Sorry!). That was until I found the FOIS.... A perfect 'only omega' watch: Great vintage styling, a cool story, a tad smarter looking than the pro but cool enough for days off/nights out too, modern so you can trust the water resistance, sapphire so no need to worry about damaging it and if it all goes completely wrong and it's lost/destroyed it's easily replaceable!
If it wasn't for the way that my Titanium Planet Ocean 8500 and 9300 wears vs a SS version, my POLMLE would be the only 3-hand Planet Ocean I'd consider. So if Ti is out of the equation then the SS Planet Ocean 8500/8900 and 9300/9900 are out too, leaving only the Planet Ocean 2500 (including POLMLE). However, I realize that I simply could not do the "only one Omega" option. I have to have a Speedmaster Pro of some sort, my POLMLE, my blue Ti Planet Ocean 9300, and my 3rd Gen Speedmaster X-33. That is 4 at the least, and 6 if you add back my Ti Planet Ocean 8500 and Grey Side of the Moon.
KRC, I wouldn’t argue with that. The speedy is the gate way drug to omega. You start with that, and a couple of watches and maybe an ex-wife or two later, you’re addicted to planet oceans.
An excellent condition Speedmaster 105.003 "Ed White" although I would settle for a faithful re-edition with the new 321 movement. I do currently own a 60th Anniversary Speedmaster and could be perfectly happy owning just that Omega.
I like the Ed White Speedmaster too, but I feel quite privileged to own an Alaska Project... the downside is the collectability makes me feel a cautiousness while wearing it, so it mostly goes unworn the majority of the time. In my opinion, that is the beauty of owning the standard Speedmaster as it can be worn very confidently. I've had the same experience with motorcycles... with a Ducati and an RC51, but generally I had more carefree fun on a GSXR.
I’d love to have a Japan Racing Speedie, but for now my modern hesalite version is doing me just fine
Gosh, it's always a hard question. I think I would have to go with my 3572.50 with the Italian dial mod. Still the iconic moonwatch, but with a display back to enjoy the gorgeous movement and with just a little customization.
