The "one watch" question is like the "one car" question: My answer changes pretty often, depending on my mood!

But, like the 911 which always ends up being the one car I think I could happily have forever (make mine rear-drive and manual please) I'll take a Speedmaster. Of course it's cliche, especially on the Omega Forum, but the truth is it's the one watch that just feels the most right on my wrist :)

Now everyone else can answer more creatively than I did...

I don't have an answer for the watch question, but I was just wanting to see what people think. I haven't owned many nice watches yet, so I don't have a solid answer...

That's like asking if you could only eat one ice cream flavor for the rest of your life... I don't think I would be able to pick. Watch preferences, for me at least, are always evolving and never stagnant, so this is a super tough question.

    Well if I could dream, it'd be a 1972 Carrera RS 2.7 .

If I had to be a bit more realistic, I'd be pretty happy with a 993 Carrera 2; if it had to be new from a dealer I'd choose a Carrera S
    :)

The question could also be read as, "What is your favorite, most versatile watch in a specific price range?" One that could be worn to your wedding and downtown on a weekend. One that could be worn to the beach or to work.

Well I think the answer to that would be the banker's favorite, the Rolex Submariner no-date. Modern ones aren't my style but it still fits that bill pretty well. Me, I'd go with a 5512 or 5513 if I had the time to research; you could get the '80s/90s model too, which is held in high esteem as well.

Yeah, the no-date sub was what I had in mind. I know it's very common, but isn't it common for a reason? I believe I'd go with the ceramic 116610 though...

A great choice to be sure, though I personally prefer the smaller 5402 and other 39mm Royal Oaks. The one place I couldn't see that worn well is the beach - I mean, you could... but it'd be weird.

Yeah, it's common for a reason - it's kind of the standard. Well-made and conveys status.

Try a GMT-Master instead if you want the same versatility, but a different style (and, since we're on the Omega Forums, a little flight history!)

This Royal Oak is water resistant down to 50 meters. It's iconic bezel is shaped like a porthole ( and held down by white gold screws BTW) and looks very nice in the sand, the water and especially in the sun. Let's not forget its namesake:

And here I thought it was named for everyone's favorite suburb, Royal Oak MI!

    (I keed, I keed :D )

Of course it's water resistant, but I feel like it'd look weird on you as the only accompaniment to a pair of swim trunks

    PP 5711/1

My Royal Oak can literally be worn anywhere. I think the only watch that might trump it in versatility is the PP Natilius. Same designer btw, Gérald Genta.

Unfortunately, don't own a Natilius .............yet.

Regrettably true. Not by a Nautilus however.

A heavily modified '78 911 turbo. Point your car in the right direction, floor it, count to 3 and hang on. Fire breathing dragon. A beast.
The watch would be the 1960 Rolex GMT 6542 as seen on Antiques Roadshow the other day
