I’m looking to potentially pick up this vintage omega watch but the owner does not know much about it except that it’s dated from the late 1940s. Can someone tell me what reference this is?
the watch currently is not working as well, do you know how much it would cost to repair it(at most?)
Also, please post a high resolution photo just of the dial so we can check that it's original. We don't need to see the strap. You should probably budget $500 or so for the repairs, to be safe. And that's assuming there's actually a complete movement inside, in reasonable condition. Without photos, we have no idea. It could be half a movement, a rusted movement, etc. If the seller knows it's from the "late 40s", they have seen the inside, so they should be able to tell you the reference, serial number, movement caliber, and give you some photos.
Can you clarify this? Do you mean it's running but not keeping time accurately, or does it not wind, time can't be set, etc.? A watch that runs but isn't accurate will require (usually) less work and money than one that's not running at all.
All - thanks for the help. I decided to stay away as the seller did not have any movement pictures and did not send any high resolution pictures. It seemed he did not know why the watch wasn’t running which also added to the mystery. He was asking for a $100 but with so many unknowns(movement, whether or not the watch was original, history of watch etc) I think I made the right choice.
Thanks again everyone for the help.
If it's running at all, I'd grab it. It may just need a cleaning. For $300.00 you'd have a nice dress watch. Even if it's small by today's standards, it would work well under a cuff with a suit and tie. I have numerous watches in the 32-34 MM range that work well with a suit.
