Identifying Hands on 14770 SC 61, Pre-DeVille 1961

Dear All,

First time posting, please be gentle!

I've recently decided to restore an old family 1961 14770 SC 61, Pre-DeVille from 1961 (I think), calibre 562. I'm doing quite well with the dial, case, and movement but the hands are in shocking condition and I'm searching for NOS replacements. I've searched on Cousins and it's only coming up with the gold variant.

The hands are silver with lume, identical to the ones in the attached picture (from a very similar watch on Chrono24), which are hopefully in good enough condition for someone to recognise. I've managed to source the sweep-seconds hand, but if anyone can offer any ideas on the part number and/or a good place to source the hour and minute hands, I'd be very grateful.

Those hands look pretty good to me. What about them do you not like?

As I said, the picture is not my watch! The plating on mine has has failed to the point that it's down to the brass, so I thought that I'd have more luck towards an identification with a reference photo that actually looked silver.

Maybe post a couple of pictures of yours and we can guide you better on what you need.

The picture above is of the is of the hands I require. I worry that if I post pictures of my degraded hands, skim readers will recommend gold ones 😀

I have been researching around this for a while now and I've hit a wall: being from 1961, it's before case numbering that documents the spec of the watch. There seem to be lots of hand and dial variations associated with 14770, which is why I feel it is important to show the hands required in a recognisable condition, rather than my brassy messes!

I thought I had found the correct hands with references to "065PZ1220", but this image (below) shows they are too different! So any any help finding the silver lumed hands in the opening post would be appreciated. Thanks!

I suppose the worst case scenario is me re-plating and re-luming the hands.

There are members who can probably help you out with sourcing replacement hands and advising you about your watch but you should actually post photos (good ones) of your actual watch and that will assist us to assist you.

Yep. Post the actual hands so you get the correct information. Posting all of these other hands is just going to create confusion.

I've attached an image of the dial and hands as they currently are. I'm preparing the hands for silver plating in case I can't source NOS. There are currently splotches of remaining plating on the hour hand. Both were originally silver coloured with failed lume which I have removed in preparation. The indices are bright silver in person - the lighting in the photo isn't fully representative. The dial itself has good colour rendering.

Any thoughts on silver hour and minute hand part number and/or source gratefully received. Thanks!

As an addendum to this, the centre-to-tip length on the minute hand is 13.5 mm.

calibre 562.

The movement is currently in pieces for servicing. As stated in the first post, it is a 562: the mounting diameters are 1.5 and 0.8mm for hours and minutes hands.

This all feels besides the point: I'm looking for the part number of the hands detailed in the first post so that I can use genuine parts in this restoration. So far, this doesn't feel either welcoming or productive.

And did you take any photos of your watch before you disassembled it?

Honestly, we are trying to help you with this. There are plenty of knowledgeable members familiar with the movement and vintage pieces in general. The reasons behind asking for pictures and more pointed questions is to make sure you're pointed in the correct direction with the correct information.

The last thing we or you want is for someone to say "these are the hands you need" then you purchase a set of incorrect hands which do not work for the movement. Then your out the time/money and still don't have a solution to your issue.
