Identifying a vintage Tudor

Hello all,

I've been looking at buying a vintage Tudor, and found one I like the look of.

However, I dont know much about vintage Tudors. The seller is not willing to remove the case back. Has said that the case is 'probably' 9kt gold, but has said the hallmarks are likely inside. The watch has fixed lugs but this is the only other information I know.

Any help would be much appreciated.

A big rose Tudor is a lovely thing. The 7:00 lug has a gouge at the fixed spring bar, and 5:00 seems to have one at the back. Without a movement shot, it is a lottery ticket that could end up as a nice watch to wear

Hello, thank you,
I had noticed the gouges actually, I suppose they wouldn't really be seen though when the strap is fitted
Do you know anything more on the identification? Or the type of movement that should be inside?

Thank you

My knowledge is limited on these. I recall an urbangentry video on YouTube that gave a nice background on Tudors

If its a caliber 59, parts can be a proper bitch to find. Wrong crown. Damaged lug with what looks like fixed bars is bad as those are very thin lugs so that will impair the strength of the lug..

9 carat is usually English in my experience, that's the lowest carat you can still call gold in that market. They are usually hallmarked on the lug.

How can he say what the metal content is if the hallmarks are inside and he's unwilling to remove the caseback, its total guesswork.

Pretty dial, but with no movement shots and questionable metal content I'd walk away unless it is very, very cheap.

like $100

with a warranty

and a nice box

Fritz, do you mind sharing the name of the shop you usually go to?

absolutely not! its a secret! I can't have the whole world knowing who made my 42 Elgin run so nicely after I bounced it off the hardwood floor.

European Time, Bronte Road, Oakville Ontario, Canada.

Really good work, very reasonable prices.

If you tell him I sent you he'll charge you double.

And no, he's not a pretty green eyed red headed handmaiden, he's a big ugly German...

very ugly actually.

I made up the handmaiden.

again...every night actually....

I'm guessing it's quite small, has the seller mentioned the case size?

It's really not worth considering until you gather the relevant information. What if you ask the size and he tells you it's 30mm?

I wouldn't mind my Watchmaker driving a Lada.
