Hello to all,

I have come across this special tank style dial along with an R17.8 movement that i am in the process of restoring. I can't seem to find the correct reference number for the original model that this dial came from. It says "Fab. Suisse" in french which is odd to me.

Thanks in advanced, Gil.

Hi Gil,

there is nothing mysterious about your watch.
"Fab. Suisse" on dial and movement are corresponding and perfectly fine for a watch sold to France.
Can you show the markings from inside the case and/or outside? This might help.

You will have very little chance of finding the correct reference if you do not have the case, I am afraid. Omega - and a lot of other manufacturers - didn't use reference numbers they way they do now and there is no way of identifying the correct reference without knowing what the case looks like. Of course, I guess you could try to get an extract from the archives from Omega which would probably state the model, unless it is non-Swiss case to begin with.

Movement was made around 1945. That’s about all anyone can tell you without seeing the watch put together with the dial, case and hands.

As noted, Omega might have the reference number in their archives, but maybe not if it was cased in France.

Thats the thing, i dont have the case or hands for this. I tried contacting omega but they simply told me to go to their authorised seller (which im sure doesn't know a lot about watches from that period.)

Too bad. They really only need the movement serial to research their archives, and they used to be willing to provide an extract with that information alone. Did you actually apply for an extract and pay the fee?

Didn't someone post a similar watch in the last couple of weeks with that movement?

Maybe search and see what case they have.
