The snow and accumulation of ice make it feel like cement. Very hard crust. We are lucky so far. No downed trees.

We are a short drive away from Archer. I hope he had the same luck. You can see how thick it is.

It’s thick but it wears like a dream 😉

I’d like to see this Bulova without the bezel. It’s not that thick. Snowblower is useless. I need a farm implement! The road surface reminds me of the five years we lived in Quebec city. They left hard packed snow in residential areas. It was great for street hockey.

Rain all day here. Brief period of icing then just rain. The lake generally keeps us warmer than surrounding area.

Not too much snow here in my area of Vermont. Doesn’t look like we got the ice they were worried about earlier in the week.

Overall, the storm was pretty underwhelming. Not that I'm complaining at all. 😀

Ice didn't start until later in the afternoon, so around 10 last night we had ice buildup on some of our trees...

This morning, ice on the plants outside...

On the front step...

And on my shop windows...

The trees around didn't fare badly at all...

I actually think the winds were strong enough to keep the ice from really building up on the trees, so most of it ended up on the ground...

Compared to 1998, this was a nothingburger...

Currently -5 C but will be up to +7 C later today, so most of this will be gone I suspect.

What a difference a day can make!

Looking East. This is about as much as we ever get and a lot more than the normal dusting. Temperatures should start warming up next few days. Going to be a lot of water. Great sledding though for now, and the occasional cross country skier. Nice and quiet, with just the wind and no traffic.

EDIT: Saying it's the most snow since 1943 and second most ever.

Had to go out for blood tests this morning, and the main roads were great. Our local streets though are just sheets of ice. The car didn't even make tracks in the driveway - solid ice.

Took a careful walk on the grass at the front of the house...turn up the volume...

Pulled up a piece - about 2 cm thick...

Pebbly texture to the ice...

Hopefully this all melts soon...so I don't have to try to clear if from the driveway...

For comparison here are some ice build-up pictures I came across a while ago. According to the embedded exif data first and second were taken in May 2003, third was taken in January 2005. No clues as to where 🙁

The crunchy sound effects from your video sound familiar…

Learned a new word yesterday: graupel. It's essentially snowflakes coated with ice. Fell for about 2 minutes in Sacramento.

Wow, that's like rime ice. Used to see that all the time at the summit of ski resorts on lift towers, etc., but nowhere is it more dramatic than at the weather station on top of Mount Washington in New Hampshire. Some of the most severe winter weather on the planet and the highest recorded wind speed on Earth. Not where you want to be in the winter.

I was supposed to be at work at 9a. I was still in traffic with at least 30minutes to go when I took this picture. Very minor ice storm it’s just the the idiots with their big four wheel drive pickups forget 4 wheel drive doesn’t help you stop faster in this weather. I am still amazed how mild this winter has been in our area usually February is killer. I won’t complain of course and sorry to all you buried in ice, snow is one thing ice is scary.

A little late to the party, but a friend and I drove to upstate NY just in time for this weather system to drop 8” of snow in the Adirondacks. We spent the last two days enjoying some pretty great snow conditions, but I haven’t been snowboarding in 8 years so I’m in for some sore legs tomorrow. Brought my CASD reissue along for the trip.

Been up there three times - fortunately never in winter.

We don’t get much snow in my part of California, but these hill tops were high enough for a dusting this week.

Looking toward Mt Diablo, obscured by clouds:
