“Watch located in Edmonton, Alberta”! Please don’t think that Canadians, generally, would be guilty of such flagrant misrepresentation of what is basically a POS!

I am wondering how this watch will be judged by eBay's Authenticity Guaranteed on the eBay.

does that apply to $1,400 watches, or is there some higher threshold before eBay ‘authentication’ kicks in?

because the OPs screenshot does not show the blue badge for authentication guarantee

So the seller replied this morning and issued me a refund. I feel bad for the guy if he's actually telling the truth. He wants to file a report to eBay against the original seller and try to get his money back as well. I told him to go to a watchmaker and have it checked and document it cuz he never had it opened. But if anyone can help answer what he's asking there (highlighted), I'll be sure to pass it on and hopefully it makes for a happy ending to this ebay story.

LOL, that was one of the contributing factors that made me want to buy it. I saw Edmonton, Canada and thought to myself he surely can't be scamming people out here.. it was reassuring.. or so i thought lol

Usually, watches under 2k has an option for buyer to use their eBay authentication for $80 extra where the seller would then have to send it to them first. But this listing didn't have one because the seller did not opt for it and therefore if i report it as fake or counterfeit, eBay does not ask me for proof nor do i owe them any explanation since the seller skipped authentication in the first place. And refund will be issued immediately after i file the claim. That's what the customer agent told me this morning.

Oy. Worse than the uninformed buyer phase, we've reached the uninformed flipper phase of this economy. For one thing the case shape is wrong compared to a legit Rolex from the 1950s. Also, the printing on the logo is incorrect.

Yeah, no offense to OP here, but I don’t know how anyone with an internet connection and 5 minutes while on the toilet could have not come to the conclusion that this is not a legit Rolex. I call bullshit on the contrition from the eBay seller, he knew what he was selling.

And how on earth were there 18 bidders?!?!

I am also skeptical about the innocence of the seller, but ultimately need to take into account that we might have a different perspective on these things, as we have seen hundreds, if not thousands of watches and have become sensitive to specifics that most people are completely unaware of.

A friend of mine, who doesn't know much about watches sent me a picture of a Rolex he bought during covid online out of boredom and I don't have the heart to tell him my full opinion. My point is, that all these months it has been in his possession, he never bothered to do any research. Something we cannot fathom.

These things are more common than we would assume.

Edit: I rather removed the picture, but it was basically a poor excuse of a watch.
