Probably, but he'd likely want an example piece to try to match it. So you'd have to take the dial off and yank another marker off to even give it to him.
Maybe not necessarily remove another marker but there are two more triangular ones to copy. Given that to put the new one on the dial it will have to come off the watch anyway it might be worth a shot? There are a few specialist watch restorers who would give this a go. Might be worth it in the end.
I base the "worth it" comment on how sharp the case is. The lugs don't appear to have been polished ever. The caseback looks a little worn but that may be from natural wear more than polishing?
I dunno. I've never met a gold smith (or anyone jeweler/case work type) who would work on measurements. They're wizards with their hands, so if you give them something to duplicate you can get a reasonable facsimile. They also have dirty hands all the time, so there's no way I'd give them my dial. Removing a single marker as an example might end up being safer. There was a guy down in Miami who would take this work on, but he retired a while back (and I'm blanking on the name). All this talk, and I'd stay far far away from this project, personally.
Took me about 15 minutes of drooling before I asked myself why that dot is there at 3. Started looking at all kinds of other SM Chrono's looking for that dot. Ha. Then I realized that shadow was there. Duh. Then I went looking for a SM CHrono dial for sale, with the same marker. Then I just said screw it.- I'm sure someone will sort it out. Lots of value there. Wonder how many of current bidders/potential bidders see the issue. It is missing the gold hour marker at 3. Any chance you have it? Thanks Dear This is not missing any makers. There is not one at three and nine. Regards, Ebay sales team
Yes, a marker can be fabricated. I've seen several watchmakers do it. When they have an original pattern to work from the results can be spectacularly close - so close you might need a 5x loupe or better to notice. No, it won't be cheap.
That's too high. I think more like $3500 or so. Should be worth more I agree but I think that's where the market is right now for this undervalued watch.
I honestly think the marker shouldn't be too difficult to remedy and might give you the opportunity to pick up a really nice watch for a really good price.
