Let me know if I'm right that this watch is fake...the first thing that jumped out at me is the location of 'Swiss Made'. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/1976-vintage...250973362?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item338395eeb2Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
What about this one? Again the Swiss Made seems out of place and on the movement just the word Omega and not Omega Watch Co. ? http://www.ebay.ca/itm/1954s-OMEGA-...242695551?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item3cd3472f7fPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
In both of those cases, the sellers openly admit to redials. You are better off practicing with those that are claimed to be original. Cheers, Tony C.
The watch is a marriage. "Custom" case, non-original dial, wrong crown. The movement, while superficially correct, doesn't look good. One bridge is more tarnished than the others, signs of degradations on some other parts, etc. This watch was (poorly) pieced together from various parts, and should be avoided at all costs.
cool...I'm not looking to buy...just trying to learn what the tell-tale signs of a complete fake, much like that poor fellow from India that just posted here about his PO. Thankfully he didn't get burned for too much money.
One easy way to identify a big, bright warning flag is when the condition of the various parts of the watch appear to be inconsistent. So, for example, if you find one with a finely preserved dial, yet the case and/or movement show clear signs of degradation, it should raise your level of suspicion.
To be perfectly honest there really aren't that many outright counterfeit vintage Omegas out there. Much more common are ones pieced together from various bits and ones with refinished dials, like the two you inquired about. Here is a recent thread which shows some true counterfeits. http://omegaforums.net/threads/dont-fall-for-a-fake-vintage-omega.6235/
I found this Omega Deville on Chrono24 for only $258. It seems to good to be true and the seller is in Germany if that means anything, here are the pictures he posted. Do y'all think this is real or fake?
