I think the story might be better than the watch...

Watch the video on the link above.

Now that's a party that I want to go to!

Afraid not. I can't watch video from the UK version.

Turnabout is fair play, I suppose.

Great story, thanks for sharing.
The appraiser is mistaken.
Dial has been repainted.
Hands redone also.
All you need to see is the centering of "Perpetual"
Way off.. Nice sharp case though.

One thing that I learned about Rolex is that there were all sorts of weird permutations of dials until the mid-1960's. I thought it was a redial at first also, and then looked and found others just like it. The "doubling" effect on the numerals could be caused by a combination of TV lighting and crystal distortion. It's impossible to say much from the poor quality video.

Another reason why it's always preferable to see a watch in person.

It's Definitely a redial. Not a "permutation"
There are no Bubble back dials where the
Perpetual is on the left.

I have to agree that it has been refinished. Cool story though...where are these parties? 😜

Seems to me the lower appraisal, by half, in 2014 is an acknowledgement that the Roadshow got it wrong in 2000. Guessing an untouched Bubbleback was worth 6K back then but would be worth a ton more now.
