Someday someone will invent a touchscreen smart strap that you can attach to your mechanical watch and have the best of both worlds. Like those ridiculous calendar bands.

^Very boring! In my situation I’m at a lake house for a few weeks so having something I can put on, swim in, shower in, make sand castles in…. It works. It’s still boring though lol
I bought a good quality but inexpensive GMT diver exactly for that situation. It has all the functions I need and I’m not afraid of being mugged. It’s my travel watch and I’ve grown to really enjoy it. I force myself not to wear it when I’m at home 😁.

In previous years I’ve had a Vostok I’d wear while over here, and as my general travel watch. It’s taken apart right now, was switching the dial a while back and haven’t gotten back to finish it.

That was not meant to be political just response to the age and wisdom thing I just did a search to find something funny and that popped up. I am now no longer a registered independent but am registered “unaffiliated” I’m trying to remove myself from any party as far as possible.

Yep, old people often misspeak...and sometimes younger people too...

It's actually kind of nice to have while kayaking, I have the one with cell reception so I don't have to worry about dropping my phone in the lake 😀 but I totally get what you're saying. I usually have my phone in a dry bag, but maybe I need a little life jacket for it too so it doesn't sink.
Actually, I'm a sea kayaker and I do carry my iphone in a waterproof case when I'm offshore. The problem, however, is that cell reception very quickly degrades in many places on the water. For that reason, I carry a satellite based waterproof personal locator beacon that's tethered to my life vest. It's registered to a national database that identifies who I am and the make and color of my boat. If I get into real trouble, all I have to do is flip a switch and the PLB sends out an emergency signal, the satellite network triangulates my position and relays the emergency signal and the GPS coordinates to the nearest Coast Guard or other rescue station. I hope that I never have to use it, but it's a good thing to have - just in case.

I’d include him in the old category, but compared to them I might be considered young I’m pretty sure I could beat them both with stupid incoherent things.

Arguably one of the most underrated watch manufacturers out there at the moment. CWL is what got me in to watches and I still own 12 of them...

I like that CW. I notice they changed up their logo on certain new offerings I don’t know if that is a permanent thing. Like @perks713 showed vostoks are great for this type of thing but I’m finding these relatively new seiko 5 “divers” are great for frolicking or power washing etc. no screw down crown of course I’d be very curious to hear what people who actually dive think of them. I wish I wore it today as I forget if they still say 200m on the dial but I’m wearing my mundane speedy.

It is permanent. Mr Christopher Ward has parted ways with Christopher Ward London so the name has been dropped from the dial and the logo put in its place.

I knew you were big into kayaking which is why I mentioned it 😀 I'm on Lake Champlain so usually within range of some kind of cell service. I forgot my gopro so i actually just took my iphone 13 into the water yesterday to get a few pictures of a fish i was snorkeling with lol

I’ve been wearing my Apple Watch and while it’s convenient for what I’ve been up to, it still is just an expensive piece of cheap plastic and glass.
I corrected that for you. You're welcome.

Oh snap I had no idea of that part of the tale just saw some people showing off new models. Their customer service gets blasted but at some point I’d like to get one. I especially like a some of their moonphase.

Yeah, they aren't cheap that's for sure, unless you're comparing them to most watches collected on this forum 😀

Sorry to be off-topic, but CWs are very nicely made watches. I always hated the "Christopher Ward" writing so glad they are going strictly with the logo now (which I think is a cool logo). I have two, including a nice moonphase, but unfortunately it doesn't get much wrist time.

Yes I do believe that was the one I was lusting after a bit. Has impressive lume? I think I first saw it on Reddit it just really struck me as somethings do.
