Hello- I’m very new to the vintage Omega realm. I purchase a Omega Seamaster 2849. Looks to be from 1957-62 era. I haven’t opened the case yet but wanted to see if this purchase was a good one. I purchased the watch off Craigslist for $300. It does not have the original crown and shows some patina on the dial- notibly near the fonts is yellowing. The gentleman that I purchased it from had no use for it- it was his great uncles I believe. Hopefully this was a good purchase and not a frankenwatch.
Hey Steve, at first glance this doesn't look good. Opening the case back to see the movement might shed more light on the whole watch...
Unfortunately the dial has been refinished and the crown and some of the hands are wrong. Not a great purchase but at least it wasn't too expensive.
Two threads, one consensus - redial, water damage, relumed. Not a bad price for a working Calendar Seamaster, just that it's missing that "originality."
I just hope the pictures are uglier than the watch itself. Poor redial, lots of scratches. The good side is you can find a dial without too much difficulty.
hmm. The case is worn but nice. The glass scratches will polywatch out. If the movement is good condition it might not be a complete dud. you might not get what you paid for it selling right away, but the losses shouldn't be calamitous. Personally (if the movement is good) I'd put it away in a tin and spend a bit of time looking for a nice vintage replacement dial in reasonable condition. Then I think it'd be a lovely watch to wear and keep in the collection....... We've all paid the noobie tax!
