    Hi,

It is only my second post to the forum so please go easy. I just picked up a very reasonably priced franken watch, but I need help identifying whether it belongs in the Adams family or not.

I did buy it knowing that it has a Constellation movement and back case. The rest looks like a 166.062 Big Crown Seamaster 60. From what I can tell so far, the case back is from a Constellation as is the movement, the crown is from a 166.062 and the hands look like they are from a 1973 Timex that you would find in a shoebox in a garage sale.

I bought this for the case, dial and bezel with look original. Can anyone help me identify the DNA of this monstrosity?

    Thanks, Daniel

Just imagine the time it took for the guy who made it, to find a back with the correct diameter and thread for the case or vice versa with the combination allowing the movement and dial to fit in.
    Must be one helluva "watchmaker"

I agree, it’s going to take a lot of time and trouble to undo all of the watchmaking mastery

Ha ha, if there was a vote option I would start it up:

Hammer blow vs. Endless search for unobtainable parts for restoration

I get a sense of where this is going :)

Haha.. This is by far (in it's one sick way) one of the most original watches I'ver ever seen! Thanks for sharing! Good luck with your project!

My project was 99% complete down to the NOS crystal and crown etc. etc. Parts from Ofrei and EBay. I found a donor 565 movement and the watchmaker overhauled it.

He also put the Bakelite bezel insert in the ultrasonic cleaner and it is finished. So, I only purchased this watch in the beginning for the case, bezel and dial. Now I need to find a new bezel.

I am in a bind, if anyone’s holding please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Daniel

See if helps. I guess I don't understand what you are trying to do. If you found the donor movement, the only other things the watch needs are the correct case back, which might take awhile, and the dial hands. I hope you kept the crown, which is correct. I have seen a lot worse looking bezels on these than the one that is on yours. I would try and source some correct hands and get them on it and wear and enjoy it until you can find a correct case back with 166.062 on it. Here is a picture of mine with the correct hands.Good luck.
