"I love it - it looks so small!" Said no one, ever.

I agree with this completely, I used to wear larger 42mm watches and have slowly gravitated towards smaller pieces over recent times and it's a gradual process.
Yup- and it’s hard to go back. I wore my Sinn 103 yesterday after a week of 32-34mm watches...I almost wanted to rip it off in the first couple hours...so heavy! I haven’t worn my Speedy in months- maybe a year....it’s just so damn big and flat, and big.

What is your opinion on 37-39mm watches ?

The watch that I feel wears the best on my wrist is my Da Vinci, the two part lugs make it wear extremely comfortable with it's 39mm case.

I actually sold my Speedmaster and Planet Ocean a while ago because they were too big as you said. (Still love Omega though and recently purchased a Marine from the 30s from OF)

Then why won't you jokers buy my 32mm Hamilton?!

😁

37-41 is fine for bezeled for me (divers), as long as they aren’t too thick. Non-bezels 37-38 for Chronographs, 36 and under for 3 handers. Of course there are exceptions based on the form factor of the watch, proportions, dial-bezel ratio, lug length, etc. I still have my Navitimer which I will never sell- it’s big, but it’s so damn pretty. And my Speedy has been with me forever so it’s like a family member...a cousin I hate but still invite to all the get-togethers.

A 34mm Rolex on a bracelet under a sleeve is great. They look a lot smaller on a strap IMO. I like a 36mm Rolex on a strap though.

I was thinking the .010 Seamaster would be close in form but it’s larger if I recall. Some of the Seiko Sportmatic models from the late 60’s were “knock-off’s” of the 34m Oyster style case so you could probably grab one of those for a hundred or two and see if you like the way it wears (then just give it away if you don’t).
If you really want to try the style without shelling out $3k, get a Tudor Oyster Prince from the 60’s/70’s. They are the same case as the 5500 series and 1/3 the price and are always in demand, so if you don’t like it, you can just flip it for what you have into it- they rarely ever lose money unless you buy a total dog.

And wear long sleeves when you try them on. Yes, on wide open real-estate arms, they can look smallish- but peeking out from under a cuff- perfection.
Exactly. And a big watch don't feel that good with shirt cuffs, while it is nice with a polo shirt.
This one is the 1950s omega equivalent to a 34mm oyster, with a bracelet on my 18.5cm wrist it is OK.

Unfortunately all Rolex pieces seem have to risen in price and I don't know what a ton of shekels is for you but the vintage catalog is filled with 36mm models. Oyster, Oyster precision Oyster perpetual, Oyster Quartz, day date, date just, explorer 1 all 36mm. Maybe give that a look.

I love that Air-king. The grey dial rocks!

The Rolex slate color was one of my fav’s. I had my eye on a nice birthyear (1972) 1603 a couple years ago at HQ Milton. I was saving up and moving money around and of course it was sold by the time I got my act together. Haven’t seen another since that was in decent enough shape to spend money on.
