The older I get, the more piles of ‘stuff’ gather around me. It does make for some enjoyable treasure hunting. Anyway, I came upon my favorite Longines ever. 14k solid case. Bought it at auction in 1986 for a couple of hundred bucks. I wore it virtually every day for at least seven years. Amazingly accurate, I learned, as I had trains to catch during that period of my life. In today’s world, it’s a small watch. I have a small wrist, so that never bothered me. Not many other watches have I worn for such sustained periods; usually, I’ve rotated. There are only two other steady watches that come to mind: a 145.022-74 Speedmaster and a 1016 Explorer. So, even though it has not appreciated as much as the other two (there was maybe $175 difference in what I paid for the three of them, in the 80’s), it’s treasured none the less. Treasured enough that now that I’ve recovered it, it’s going off to the watchmaker.
Fun and funky. Longines did some pretty wacky designs back in the day. I think they were the most avant-garde with their designs, especially with the american cased watches. Here is my grandfather's mustache (also in 14kt gold) with a very close serial number to yours:
Very nice. American-market Longines had so many different case and dial options. A very similar model, gold-filled, from 1955 according to vintagewatchresources.com http://www.vintagewatchresources.com/detail.php?watch_id=191
