Hi guys, just joined the forum.
I share your passion about watches and I own Rolex, Franck Mueller and Jlc. My first piece though was a speedmaster(which is still in my collection) ... After a while I came back to the omega family and I fell in love with some watches which look great to me. Can someone help me with the age and the history of the "Cosmic" sequel? Thanks! Fred

Can't say anything about the history, but having worn some Cosmics, they are awesome - large, chunky, modern size. Great looking 3-D dials, and comparatively inexpensive! Only downside to me is that you need to pop the crystal and dial to get to the movement..

The Seamaster Cosmic was introduced in 1967 and was produced into the early/mid 1970s.

Lots of options on these, hand wind and automatic, no date/date/day-date, stainless steel and gold plated, lots of dial variations. Beware of refinished dials, especially black ones.

Not to be confused with the later Seamaster Cosmic 2000, which is a completely different and unrelated watch.

Actually the first vintage Omega I purchased a long time ago and I still have it.

Great watches all around. I’ll be looking to acquire one in the not too distant future.

Brilliant watches, I couldn't recommend them highly enough. As mentioned above, the only downside is they are difficult to open but they make up for it with stunning designs

Thanks! How do you see the black dial I have in the picture? It is a 33.5mm.

I think the black dialled one in your images looks ok, the case looks very polished and the lugs have lost their sharpness. The case finish that you really want in the stainless steel cases is the nice brushed finish as in X350 XJR's post above.

The Cosmic in my image has a mix of both but is a different model Cosmic 166.022 which has a chamfered case.

Black dial in OPs post looks OK.

Be patient, there a lot of Cosmics out there you can be picky and get a really nice one, the difference in price between a mediocre one and a nice one isn't that great.

One of my favorites too. This one has a slight brown tint when seen in natural light. 2016-07-28 002.JPG

I have a similar black Cosmic. I really like the c-shape case and the dial is a classic

One of the best ways into collecting vintage omegas in my opinion. While the front loading aspect can be a bit of a pain for servicing, overall I think it’s an advantage as the movement is less likely to have been ‘played around’ with by amateur enthusiasts!
