I don't understand the recent Rolex SS craze/shortage. What am I missing?

It's crazy. ANd there are other asks around way over that. I have the watch and I can respectfully say...it. Is. Not. Worth. That.

I got a call from AD to buy some back in December. If I knew the world was going to go mad I could have been vacationing in Greece right now.

If he was offering them to you at the Store prize you definitely should have bought them all. If my AD contacts me with the coral or the blue I'd go for it. But not for these prices.

Whatever they’re doing is working because the grey market prices are getting ridiculous. I remember when i could afford a rolex and it be a reasonable purchase against other watch brands.

Yep. For the grey market prices there are a lot of better options out there

I’ve been looking around since this thread started and still haven’t found anyone with a single NEW Rolex. Not even the ladies date just or anything.
The funny thing is how almost all have used Rolex, at pretty much C24 prices or higher. I don’t blame them for doing this because they can, but it doesn’t seem right.

I’m getting a little confused, so you’re all claiming that Rolex makes watches right ?😒

I suspect there are plenty here (I have 2), just that this thread hasn’t been a place for posting like that. Check the thread for Subs, GMTs, etc.

The gist of it: Rolex makes and sells more watches than any other Swiss mechanical manufacturer, but still doesn’t make enough watches.

So many words. 71 pages. Head hurts.

Person 1 buys new Rolex Submariner for 8950. (Person one is original buyer on "the list").

Person two buys Rolex Submariner from person 1 for 17,500. (person two is "grey market")

Person three buys Submariner from person two for 19,500. (Person 3 is the "investor", aka Rolex fanboy).

All of this happens within a week. Is this the new normal? Is this sustainable? Person 3 hopes so. My Magic 8 ball says "All signs say No".

To be fair, it's happening to Omega too. Snoopy3 for 30K? 🤮

Is this the new normal?

Seems so.

Is this sustainable?

Oh hell no.

Person 3 hopes so.

Rolex does, too.

Honest to God, it will be absolutely fascinating to watch what happens throughout all the different strata involved when fractures occur in the keystone. It's a hell of a thing that Rolex got to this place, and utterly terrifying for them to contemplate the "what next".

So I thought it was an April Fools day joke when I saw it originally, but I just realized they (for real) discontinued the "tiffany" dials on the larger OP's and totally discontinued yellow and red on all sizes.
I find it interesting that they decided to discontinue an already very popular color...are they just adding fuel to the fire on purpose?

Take one of your most popular models, and discontinue it. Seems like an odd strategy for selling watches, but right on point for making hype.
