After the generous and helpful replies in this thread I started calling around - ie: calling around very far away as I reside in a Watch Drought affected area.

Lo & behold, I found exactly what I was looking for... and it was only a mere 11 hour drive away.

After talking to my #1 partner in crime ~ my favorite human for a host of other ill-planned, impromptu & occasionally stupid activities since we exchanged nuptials 28 years back ~ my wife... whom I began first explaining the ridiculous proposition of yet another watch, then gently explaining that it would be a somewhat spendy watch, then finally closing out my desperate proposal with the promise of some sunshine/people watching via a quasi Daycation (if you can call nearly 24 hours of driving back & forth to Los Angeles from Southern New Mexico with a single day off from work a day's worth of vacation) "ROAD TRIP!" was proclaimed within our house...

...so at midnight off we went westward.

We drove through the night listening to music & chatting while ingesting copious amounts of coffee, arriving in the City of Angels just past the crack of dawn.
Entered the establishment as they unlocked their doors and stayed just long enough to exchange names/greetings/handshakes followed by a quick sit-down & presentation as well as a try-on and sizing... they provided beverages, snacks and looks of surprise at our more teenage than old age itinerary which we had 50% completed by that point while I provided a valid credit card...

...and then off we went eastward...

pulling into our driveway at 11pm.

Made my intrepid co-driver some late dinner so she could get to bed with enough sleep for her 8am alarm while I sat up too late, most of the night truthfully, staring at my acquisition while also reading/rereading/rereading again all the accompanying literature until my eyelids could take no more.

Finally, sleep.

And also finally some photos:

Welcome aboard the 321 Ed White club. It's the easiest Speedmaster to wear, and has a presence on the wrist that is undeniable.

Great trip and well worth it. Kudos to the partner in crime.
I did a similar but much shorter trip with my son in Florida to buy a Planet Ocean 1st gen. Nevertheless a great bonding moment and seeing his eyes light up when I gave him my Omega SMP 300m as an early birthday gift on the way back home made it all worth it 😀

The important question - did you time you trip back on your new Speedy?

😉

If not, a missed opportunity!

I'm glad it's worth the effort...........it would be most horrid to go through all that for something crappy like a Rolex! 🤣

Congratulations!!

Did you purchase the 321 from an Omega Boutique? I'm surprised you were able to call around and find one available for immediate purchase.

It was pure luck mixed with good timing actually... an ΩB had one fresh in from Biel and the fella on the wait-list it was for had decided to hold off so I swept in for the win.

Well, that escalated quickly.
Hmmm, yeah it sorta did didn't it? 🤷‍♂️🙃

My initial thread was to get some thoughts and then that went from a single flake of snow to a snowball to an avalanche in a couple days. 🤣

This is how we welcome people back to the forum. We're bad influences, every last one of us.

Congrats! It's a great watch.

I do that too. Disguise my watch purchases as daytrips or short vacations. My wife’s satisfied with that. I don’t know who’s using who more, but we’re both happy. Last trip I picked up six Omegas and one Rolex.

Yeah, I've got such a soft spot for Komfits on Speedmasters.
