After putting my order in last week, I got the call this morning from my AD... my first Speedmaster had finally arrived! Anyone who followed along with the "Alternatives to Speedy Tuesday" thread knows that I was incredibly smitten by the ST LE and, for a period of time, was stressing about how to acquire one after missing out on the inital reservation. It turns out, after a tonne of research and thought, the best alternative, for me, to the ST was the good old Moonwatch. Don't get me wrong, I'll still pine for the ST, but I think I've ended up where I'm supposed to be. This Speedy is going to be my daily beater. After reading a lot about the history of the watch and developing an admiration for the various levels of vintage Speedy's out there, I'm actually kind of looking forward to my first scratch on the bezel. I think if I'd bought the ST LE, I might have worried a little more about messing it up. I think the ST LE is the perfect Speedmaster for someone who already owns one (or ten or twenty, in the case of a few of the members on this forum). You never know where life is going to take you, but if things go according to plan, this watch will end up on my 4 year old son's wrist some day - and when it does, I want the scratches and dings on it to be there, to remind him of his old man every time he straps it on. Thanks to everyone on the forum who provided me with advice and input. Today is a very good day
I never get tired of looking at Omega Speedmaster Professionals, whatever the vintage. The definition of timeless....!
Congratulations I have a few Omegas already but I am really wanting a moonwatch. Wear your in good health!
The reference number is probably the worst thing about the watch Here is is: 311.30.42.30.01.005 It's the current production version. If anyone can tell me what the short version is that I can use whe referring to it, I'd be much obliged...
