How to pick a good seller

I hope this post is not inappropriate. I reviewed the rules and it seems I'm okay but I certainly don't want to break any.

Is there a way to view a list of dealers here where I can view location, history, etc? Browsing through the sellers that post here is proving to be very time consuming yet yielding very little info (location, total sales, feedback, etc}.

I'm looking for a trustworthy seller that I can buy from without having to pay taxes or import duties (I'm in California, US).

I'm buying a couple of watches in the next few days and I'd prefer to buy from members here, but I'm not at 200 posts yet so I can't participate in the sale threads.

If it's appropriate, can you please suggest a good member dealer to me? Reply or PM is fine with me.

You can buy here without 200 posts, just Private Message the seller.

You can read reviews in this forum: https://omegaforums.net/forums/watch-seller-profiles/ . Search under the seller's name. Private sellers are supposed to include links to reviews in their listings as well, or you can ask for referrals/reviews by PM.

Also, if you search under the seller's name in the sales forum, you will find their previous listings. If you read the listings, you will often see where they are located, that information is supposed to be included in each listing, although sometimes it isn't. You can always ask location by PM.

Professional dealers post listings in Watches for Sale. Collectors post in the Private Watch Sales forum.

Trying to circumvent the requirement of paying taxes and import duties is not the way to go, it will get you into trouble.

I inferred that he is trying to find a private seller in the US.

Perhaps, but he says "import duties".

Right, he is in the US, so wants a US seller to avoid import duties. At least that was my interpretation.

Correct. Sellers from certain states can sell to me in CA without a requirement of charging sales tax. Same for international sellers from certain regions can ship to US duty free. I'm not trying to circumvent anything - I'm looking to save money legally

It's unfortunate to have to pick and choose sellers based on location, but that's what the law has brought it to.

Just to clarify, I haven't found the watches I want in the for sale posts.

I want to find the right dealer and inquire if s/he can source the watches for me.

I have no idea what you are looking for, but I am going to assume that it is some sort of commodity modern Omega, not an obscure vintage collectible. Contact the high volume sellers in the Watches for Sale forum who sell similar watches and ask them. If they have been successfully selling on the forum for a long time, they are trusted. This forum has zero tolerance for scammers.

Thank you. I guess that's what I need to do - search the threads and contact them one-by-one.

Yes, I'm looking for 3 relatively modern ATs that I'm having a hard time finding in mint condition and with paperwork

For out of production watches, I'd buy locally from a jeweler that sells used watches, one that is part of a network of dealers. Ask what you want and they'll find it for you. It won't cost you more money than buying on the forums, often less in my experience.

Is enough, according with the seller, that he declare the shipment as a gift. I think

Not quite. The US imposes import and duty fees based on the value of the item and country of shipment origin

So if I buy at 1000 and the seller declare 50 value at moment of shipping, I must pay taxes only on 50

I would say it's a gamble. It might squeeze by or it might raise eyebrows.
Customs agents are not ignorant.

I've noticed a lot of overseas sellers are now making it a point to include a notice that they will not place declared value for less than the sales price. There must be a good reason for that.

Surely is for the insurance, but you believe that customs open the thousands of parcels arriving?

Like I said, it's probably a gamble. I'm no import/export expert, but I certainly wouldn't put myself in a position of lying to the government.
