How to date a modern Speedmaster?

Hello all!

Just curious again....

Is there a way to know when my Speedmaster was made? By using a serial number or so?

I know older Rolex serial numbers can tell you give or take what year it was made, and Seiko can break it down to what month and year.

Does Omega do anything similar?

Thanks,

Jesus

Jeez just wear the thing before I bean you over the head with it. What's next..."I wonder what the Swiss guy's name was that touched it last" 😁

Serial number is only a rough indicator... and my former Speedmaster from 2000 had a 77M serial.

Haha sorry

I’m a bit of a watch nerd in a way. I like to about know the few things that I have.

I love learning to top it off.

Neither of those will help with a recent Speedmaster as they both stop at 2000. There are glaring errors on the LO table but it’s better than it used to be. Find me a 23m serial Speedmaster...

The date can be estimated by extrapolation from known dates serials but you need 3 or even 4 digits as the serial has been between 77-79m since the turn of the century.

For heaven’s sake, just wear the thing and enjoy it. It’s not Buzz Aldrin’s Speedy.

Oh ok! Is there a thread in this forum with a list of known dates serials?

I apologize but I don’t understand why you and @janice&fred are bothered by the question ???

I am sure that the reason a forum like this exists is to ask questions and learn about watches from other enthusiasts and watch nerds.

One doesn’t need a forum to “just wear the watch.”

I can do that with or without the advice to wear it, that’s kind of intuitive.

Watch pictures, while neat and lovely aren’t the main purpose of a forum either, for those can be found on google images.

I’d just like to know if my watch was made Jan 2018 or March 2016

If possible

Because this is possible with older Rolex and some Seiko

Thanks!

It’s not possible to be that exact on a modern ie post 2010 Omega with 100% certainty. Post the first 4 digits of your serial and we’ll give it a go. I get why you care, I care about the production date of my watches too.

You’re right. My apologies. It’s an open forum and you have every right to ask whatever you wish and hopefully get the answer you’re looking for.

Well i'm not apologizing for anything. If the OP can't understand a joke complete with smiley faced icons then too bad for him.

My Ultraman Speedmaster was on a 7881(3) serial and was collected by myself mid September 2018. Those were delivered as soon as they were ready without any hanging about in safes or shop windows so likely left Bienne August to September that year. I don't think you can get a more firm indication than that.
