How to choose the right place to service a Speedmaster Reduced ref. 3510.10

I just bought a ref 3510.10 with an unknown service history but appears to be in good shape. I've previously had a vintage Seamaster destroyed by an incompetent watchmaker and my understanding is the modular chrono in the ref. 3510.10 is notoriously difficult to service, so I'm really not sure how to make sure this doesn't happen again other than sending it directly to Omega. Issue with that is, my first son is set to be born inside 2 months and I want to be wearing the watch when he is born, so Omega isn't able to turn it around inside that timeframe guaranteed.

My suggestion -- hope for it to keep working until your son is born, then send it off for service. Even a local watchmaker will likely take longer than two months -- they aren't just working on your watch, and likely. My local watchmaker took three months to service my Speedmaster from the day I stopped it off.

I just wouldn’t trust anyone other than Omega with one of these unless I was absolutely sure they will actually disassemble and service the chrono module*. Many independents will not. The honest ones will tell you this up front. The shysters don’t. That isn’t to say that no one will try. I can think of 2 or 3 in the UK who will do it but no one can get parts for these and I mean no one so a certain amount of luck is involved in keeping a Reduced healthy. A service on just the timekeeping part is basically no service at all.

*this module is made by a third party, not Omega and they themselves swap it rather than attempting service.

My watchmaker is Omega certified and can overhaul the 3510.10. He takes less than 2 months.

^ This. Wear it till your son is born and then send it off for service afterwards.

What part of the world are you in? We can provide some suggestions for an independent watchmaker that can service it per your request.
