My general photography is reasonable. By that I mean I use an iPhone, natural light, a few bit of card etc as deflectors and generally get ok pictures.

One thing I cannot do at all is pocket photos. How do you do it, or am I wide of the mark trying simply with an iPhone? Is it a camera and tripod job?

I have inadvertently taken a picture or two when reaching out or putting away the phone from/into my pocket, but these come out under exposed and out of focus all the time..

Because I’ve dabbled with Instagram ( purely to waste my days looking at beautiful watches ) I’ve tried to capture the odd pocket shot. My best attempt was this .... I took the photo with my iPhone upside down then rotated it, looks quite good

My low-end Samsung has a timer that can be set to 2, 5 or 10 seconds, and off of course. The backup 5 year old Motorola Moto G has off, 5s and 10s. For the cost of an iPhone I'd expect it to have similar facility.

Beautiful watch that, I was on the search for one of those for a long time(gave up in the end). Great shot too, don't think I've ever tried taking a pocket shot but I've noticed it's a popular thing on instagram and does make alot of watches look great.

Wish I could, sadly these days watches of that value are out of the equation for me.

    Well
At the risk of being banned let me say “there’s more to life than watches” and if it’s any consolation I sold this watch recently to raise cash for home improvements :)

I think Two Broke Watch Snobs may have covered some pocket-shot tips in one of their photography episodes.

Thanks guys - looks like I’ll have to duct tape my phone to a golf club then!

I might post some of my efforts here to give everyone a laugh;)

C29C0C07-486B-4A80-A586-B3AB539D9274.jpeg I totally see your point. It might help that i am tall. But if you put your hand in your pocket and bend over using the volume button to take the shot (I’m on iPhone) they can turn out something like this.
Not sure if you would rank these as good pocketshots. However my hands in my pocket and I’ve been taking a shot of the watch ;)

I’ve not tried this yet, but I was going to try using a tripod with iPhone cradle, mirror and attach my headset to my iPhone which allows me to use volume control to snap a shot.

Or having my 6 year old daughter who is interested in taking photos try.

I can’t say there’s much challenge to it. You can always flip the phone and use the front camera or, if you want perfect proportions, shoot into a mirror and crop it

You will have a problem of pressing the electronic shutter button. The device in that picture I posted is called a ‘selfie stick’, and apparently has a button in the handle that somehow integrates into the phone. Don’t ask me how, I’m not into selfies ;)

Nice picture and it reminds me I need to wear my Tradition more often. That’s such a good looking watch.
