How often does this happen? Speedmaster stops at 12:00

Taking my Speedmaster 105012 of my wrist with its freshly serviced 321 movement, putting it on the table to find a day later it has stopped at exactly 12:00 (we’ll plus one second), when it ran out of power.

I know some models of hour / minute / seconds hands want to stop on top of each other due to a small amount of magnetism. Like 60’ies SM300’s like to do this. They usually stop at any time the minute hand passes the hour hand.

But i don’t think this applies to painted Speedy hands, and for the movement to stop at 12:00 sharp?

Has this been ever discussed here in OF, or was this just a fluke of nature?

Should i go and put a ticker for this weeks lottery draw or was this my lottery win?

A Merry Christmas to everyone on the Forum!

Maybe just a fluke. If it’s consistently repeatable you may be onto something. My $0.02 : try it again, and again...

Is it really out of power or are the hands just misaligned? I've had watches with poorly set hands that caught on each other from time to time, usually at the same spot on the dial.

Looks like the minute and seconds hands are out of sync. Seconds hand show just after the 60 sec. mark yet the minute hand is before a minute mark.

I've seen this happen when the chronograph was activated but that doesn't seem the case with your pic? you could always give the watch one shake and see if it's truly out of wind. the second hand should only tick for a few seconds. if the thing keep running for a while after the one shake then yea maybe something is up.

    It’s only a 1 in 43,200 chance.

Could be the minute hand getting stuck with low power reserve when it passes the chronohand at 12? try to look at it from a steep angle through the crystal or take out the movement/dial and look at it from the side. Can happen when the hands are not properly adjusted.

Strangely, I picked mine up yesterday (it gets worn in rotation) & it too had stopped at exactly 12 as per the others above.....
I've never seen this before on any of my watches!
Best wishes of the season to fellow OF members...........

    It's a feature, not a bug...
