I was actually at a conference yesterday and happened to be wearing my 3592.50 and a gentlemen sat down next to me with a brand new 3861 on. We talked for over an hour afterwards…. I still believe that anyone wearing an Omega will usually talk watches, while 90%+ of Rolex owners have no idea about anything other than price. (I know a lot of people here have Rolex, including me, so please don’t take offense to this. It wasn’t meant towards you)

Met a lovely chap this week who was wearing a blue airking. Bit of a grail for me. He told me it was a present from his mother in law who gave it to him 26 years ago. In that time he has had it serviced 3 times. When I asked what the time keeping was like he smiled. " it's always 5 minutes fast" he replied. The watch was last serviced 5 years ago. Looking down at my 1968 Certina DS I felt smug. Keeps almost perfect time and the service history is unknown 😀

Late afternoon today I went to my next-door neighbours' house for "drinks and nibbles". Also invited was someone from further down the lane whom I knew to say hello to, but no more. She was wearing what I am pretty sure was a '60s Constellation, possibly a pie-pan. Man's watch. My neighbours wear modern quartz so I did not think that old Omegas was a good topic for general conversation, but next time I see her I will ask about it.

Sat in on a meeting from with a heap of directors and assistant directors from work the other day and it was a TAG athon. Three TAGs and a Garmin.

Oddly the topic of conversation was Tattoo’s and not watches after the meeting. As I have a few nautical themed tattoos and they were from the Maritime branch. A Tebori tattoo was more impressive than a Speedmaster 😉

Speedy Tuesday Alaska Project III a few behind me in line at the airport today.

Since our line was waiting to deal with our cancelled flight, I didn’t bother the guy.

Seemed remarkable to see one randomly in the wild.

Almost never, but I saw a guy sitting in a Porche today at my lokal grocery store wearing what probably was a Rolex. It had polished center links and a bezel. It may have been a homage of some sort, you never know with Rolexes, I dont consider them nice watches anyway.
I saw a local conservtive politician at the same store wearing a Speedy, that I consider to be a nice watch, but he didnt get my wote.
My neighbor has a kick-ass, beaten up Certina diver with a missing bezel insert, thats a very cool watch!
I usualy see smartwaches, Nixons, Diesels, and Casios in the wild. Sometimes Seikos aswell.
The only time my Seamaster 2254 got any attention was the watchmaker who sized the bracelet " beautiful watch" and some young wanna be gansters who, on two separate occasions asked if it was a "Rollie"

Took a 350km train ride to pick up a vehicle in another city, a passenger got on in another city and I apologized to her as I would be joining an online call shortly. She insisted it was fine, and that she also needed to join a call with a client after I would finish. We ended up chatting a bit the rest of the journey and I glimpsed a lovely vintage Rolex (some type of OP?). 2 minutes before arrival, she happened to mention she had quite a collection of watches and we simply ran out of time to get into it more.

I come from near London and I very rarely see another omega, 90% of the time it's a Rolex sport model. Whenever I see a fellow omega always do my best to stop and converse with the person about it.

Rolex sport models near London, now that’s a novelty, the rumour mill gives the impression that wearing a Rolex in or anywhere near London is a no no due to the gangs roaming the streets ripping Rolex, Patek and the like, off people’s wrists and escaping on their scooters.

Omega Planet Ocean on a barbers wrist when I arrived for my haircut today, didn’t get chance to talk as he went for lunch and hadn’t come back when I left, an older model well worn.

Of course there is the possibility you do get that but in a lot of cities that is also the case it’s also the media over being over dramatic . In central london seeing a Rolex is almost boring, I kind of look at peoples wrists and hope it’s anything other than that (yet I do also wear a Rolex every now and then😗)

Waking around NYC, I see lots of Rolex Subs, a few Daytonas, sometimes an APRO or Nautilus. But it is very rare for me to see something nice that is not super trendy.... no surprise there, I guess. I have been surprised, though, at the number of times I see these watches displaying the incorrect time... I think many of these people never really look at their watches. It would drive me nuts to be wearing a watch that was not correct.

Encountered a total stranger at a bar the other month. Guy was wearing a PP. I told him he had a nice watch and he replied that it was a Patek. I told him, Yup, a Calatrava. He immediately took it off and handed it to me to have a look. Which is a level of trust I appreciated. He was just that thrilled someone knew what it was!

These days, quality mechanical watches of any brand are more often than not bought as fashion statements. But fewer and fewer people even think about owning a wristwatch...or a land line phone...or a classic car...or a work of art. They don't even shop for their food anymore, instead having boxes of it delivered in the form of prepared meals. My brother's son is only into life electric...his Tesla 3, his Apple watch, his Google phone...yet he also loves to garden...so I have a little hope for him. I love all things mechanical, but have no attraction to the new mechanical watches. If I see a nice vintage watch on someone's wrist and the opportunity presents itself, I will try to start a conversation. But that is rare, sadly. All that said, here we are on the modern internet, and that is probably saved our hobby and passion.

The guy in front of me at the Whole Foods checkout was wearing a Cartier Santos, one of the new ones. I was tempted to compliment him on it, with the hope of seeing if he would let me get a closer look (because I’m interested in getting one eventually), but decided against it.

I was in the checkout line at our local REI store today, behind a fellow who was loudly extolling his latest outdoor exploits to the cashier (and everyone else within 50 meters). I noticed that he was wearing what looked like a Nomos Tangente. In other circumstances I would have been inclined to strike up a conversation, but his obnoxiousness kept me silent. I also figured there was a pretty good chance that he had one or two Leica cameras at home.

Volunteered at a charity golf outing yesterday and there were a couple hundred (according to a fellow volunteer) "millionaire spending their family's money." Only saw one luxury watch, a Rolex date just in either stainless steel or white gold.

Other than that my Omega Seamater 300 Heritage was the nicest watch at the event. Kinda sad to go to an event like that where everyone could afford a nice watch but chose not to.
