I think that is spot on, honestly. USA buyers will also have to pay duties.

Obviously I misunderstood. It was listed as ended with a final price as what I quoted.
So does this mean it sold early and who knows what the final price was?

Seller likely got an acceptable offer through ebay or elsewhere and just ended the listing. We'll never know what it actually sold for unfortunately :(

He ended it early and sold it to the highest bidder, which was $4979.77, he didn't just end the listing IE: no longer for sale, error in listing etc.

    C’mon guys!
There are so many loopholes in the eBay system.
He did not just decide to sell it to the highest bidder in the middle of the auction at a below market rate.
A friend must have bid, he made him the winner, and one of the two canceled the sale afterwards (no fees for seller).
One of a few possible scenarios....

You don't need a loophole. There's nothing wrong with just cancelling the sale and choosing the "no longer available for sale." option.

He chose to end it AND sell to the highest bidder. Think what you want, those are the facts. If a friend bid on it he could've just ended the sale without selling it.

But whatever makes you feel better.....

Why would anyone end a no reserve auction for a hot and heavily watched item early and sell at a below market rate? They wouldn’t...

He could have done as you suggested (ended early and no longer available for sale), but then he would have been charged a final value fee of atleast $250. Perhaps he decided to do this and forfitted the $250. But why do that when you can do as I described above?
