My first was a new 1969 145.022 with 1039 bracelet for $200 in the duty free shop at the Paris Airport during the summer of 1970. I still have the original bracelet and box.

First Speedmaster 1st January 1968 birthday present from my parents. It cost them £65!

They should have gone to Chronosport (P.T. Barnard) mail-order in Bath who was listing them in May 1969 at £59. 19s. 6d. or £66. 5s. 0d. over 6 monthly payments. My first Carrera arrived for the grand sum of £31. 2s. plus 6s. postage & packing 😀

Thanks dad 👍

Depends, right? (I blows me away how many different type watches Omega put the word Speedmaster on over the years.)

So, what exactly was your first Speedmaster?

105.003-64....bought from a vintage dealer running a booth at a weekly flea market in Memphis, TN the summer of 1991. I paid $225 for it. Never had it serviced but wore it a couple of months then into storage. Unboxed it and posted on the OF last month for grading advice and opinions. Poor pictures, only in "fair" condition and a very good blue bezel but it runs fine and is a delight to own it!

Well,,, I guess I'm like all the newbies : quite depressed reading these threads 😵‍💫😲 or jealous 😒 which is not much better !
Anyway congrats for the ones who have done those good deals with nice historical pieces ... and kept them !

Anyway, I was wondering : do you consider a wise choice to go for much newer models in 2nd hand ?
Like the 311.32.40.30.01.001 in 40mm ? or the 3594.50 in 42mm ? which seems to me to be the most affordable options I have :

Or you think that for maybe 1K more I can still intend to find an older and more significant vintage version popping up somewhere and directly coming to me (just dreaming) ?

What say you ?

Oh ... I Hope you don't mind me changing the threads direction ?

My grandpa paid about $125 new in 1970, gave it as a gift to my Dad, and I inherited it. He owned a jewelry shop, so got it for the wholesale price. (Yes, I know the dial is not original, neither is the bracelet).

Paid $2400 for this, maybe 5 years ago. I miss it a lot. Saved up my pennies from my first job and it lived with me throughout university. I think it’s somewhere in Thailand now lol.

Wow there are very nice watches in here!
My first Speedy was a 3570 full set from 2008, I bought it in a face to face deal in 2015 with my first paychecks, I think I paid it 2300€.

I sold it to a friend a couple of years afterwards to fund the purchase a 145.022-71, and that's when the addiction started 😁

I would have spent it on more useless watches, so perhaps the hit was not too bad.
