Only? Hell it's been a little over 5 decades for me ::psy::
Aye but can you remember your first Speedmaster?
I can remember plenty of good ones and bad ones but certainly not my first.

I also didn’t pay for my first speedy, my father started this customs of buying his sons a speedy for their 18th birthday.

I remember receiving mine and thinking: “Why this color?” But then eventually it grew on me and I thought it was pretty cool to have a white (now referred to as Albino) speedy, I wore it for special occasions and I’m glad it’s still in good conditions.

That's easy: My first Speedmaster was the one my Uncle Art gave me when I graduated in 1965.

Saying that without posting a picture is pure evil

$AU1500 in 1999. Bought as my first "proper" watch because I loved the design and the history. Dealer told me it was a '69 model which did not mean much at the time, it was just cheaper than a new one. I now know it is a '76.

£2500 in 2015. It was a safe queen until I came to my senses. Now it’s a regular with the scars to prove it 😀

What makes you think I was taking watch pictures back then?
How could I take a picture of a watch that was stolen over 50 years ago 😕

My first - I spent a long time running up to this. Had been reading as much as possible / Chuck Maddox’s site was still active but the online materials we had back them were very lacking for the novice. One question I remember being too embarrassed to ask was -‘whats a step dial’

In the end I decided - I don’t know anything near enough to try and dip a toe into vintage speeds.

So bought this in NYC OB. At face. If there’s a noob tax too be paid this was one of mine. I still love the enamel dial though!!! $11,5

This thread makes me feel so young. Thanks guys!
We all did at one time, and still do from time to time.
I’m not as- senior as many members here (probably smack in the middle) but you know you have owned a watch for a long time when you remember the tritium being much lighter.

This thread is deliberately designed to make me jealous about not being in the market 10-20 (or more) years ago! 😡

Still I thought this wasn't a bad pickup for (February) 2019 - my first speedy, a 3594.50, for 3000 AUD (about 2000 USD).

There’s got to be an upside to being old, cause there are soooo many down sides.
