116500ln x2 and Red Sea dweller 126600. Waiting for gmt Pepsi & white gold steel and black dial 116519LN on Oysterflex, then I can retire. But may be a long wait. And yes I’m a rubbish photographer.

Do you prefer the black dial Daytona or the white?

Also, as an update to my last post in April, I'm still at 3 Rolex with the ceramic Pepsi GMT II and Hulk SubC, but I traded the No Date SubC and a Ti Omega SMP chronograph with blue wave dial towards a Red Sea Dweller 50th Anniversary 126600.

i had a 34mm vintage no date several years ago. it was just too small even for 7" wrist.

thinking about revisiting to at least a 36mm vintage explorer or bubbleback. how do those wear?

Well they have quite different personalities but if I could only keep one it’d be the black. Wear it every day and quite under the radar. Good choice with the SD43. How do you find your Pepsi? Jubilee comfortable?

The Ceramic Pepsi GMT II is nice, but it's a bit more elegant with it's jubilee bracelet than my previous BLNR. So, it's less sporty and less of a daily wear watch, and doesn't fly as under the radar as my BLNR did.

It also seems to wear smaller than my previous BLNR, maybe due to the bracelet, and the bracelet seems to taper more at the clasp than I would like. The comfort is not much different from my old BLNR, and accuracy is about the same at better than 1/2 sec/day within Atomic time.

At one point (before Pepsi) I had the opportunity to buy a brand new white gold Pepsi with Oyster bracelet at 35% off, as my Rolex AD was moving and needed to get rid of inventory. To pay off the purchase, I would have to sell my 42mm Polar Exp II + BLNR + TT Blue Sub. But the idea of giving up 3 Rolex for 1 gold Rolex was frightening to me at the time, and so I offered to buy it outright at 40% off and then sell my other watches to pay it off. I figured for that price, I'd take the risk, but they were firm at a 35% discount. I liked the look better with the oyster, and I liked the warmer color tone of the gold, so it could have been my one and only Rolex.

I have wide flat wrists, at almost 7.5", and so the Pepsi GMT and my Hulk seem to wear slightly small for a guy that is used to wearing a 45.5mm Ti Planet Ocean 9300 most days. The SD43 and the Deep Blue are more my size, but the Hulk wears better on my wrist than the Pepsi GMT, although still feeling slightly small. So, I occasionally wonder why I didn't just stick with the 42mm Polar Explorer II as my primary GMT watch, and save the money. On the other hand I like being part of an elite group of people with a hard to acquire watch.

I love the ceramic Daytona (white very attractive but black looks bigger to me). But I worry that it would also wear too small on me, since I tried a YG Daytona and a white dial SS bezel Daytona and they were small. If I could get one for MSRP I'd maybe give it a try, but I've been on the list at both of my local Rolex AD since the watch was announced and still haven't gotten the call to pick one up. I stay in touch with them, but they know I won't buy anything else since I have to save my money for the grail.

EDIT - this video shows how much smaller the Daytona is when compared to the Speedmaster Pro

116500ln x2

How did you manage to get 2 (steel?) Daytonas with ceramic bezel? 😲

From an AD or used/grey market?

Interesting combo with the calculator watch 😁

I went to the AD the day they came out in 2016 and waited patiently for 2 years! I don't think you can do that now. They don't even have lists any more from what I can tell.

It's a remote control watch for any tv. In my younger days I would go to the pub and switch off the telly at a crucial moment in the football and watch the fallout.

Well it's all about personal preference but I have an 8" wrist (honest...) and the Daytona is fine for me. You're right, the Black optically seems bigger than the White for some reason (and all non ceramic Daytonas), so go for that one, if you have a choice. I've had speedmasters in the past: 42mm Professional, loved it but kept forgetting to wind it so it went, then the 44.5mm coaxial moonwatch. Found it too big in the end. The SD43 is a lump but it's good for the weekend and feels special. I had the old Sea Dweller ceramic 40mm and it went because it was too thick for a 40mm watch. Sold it at cost then Rolex kindly discontinued it and the price instantly doubled, no regrets (sob).

I just bought the 1948 Seamaster and it's only 38 mm but the face is the same size as the Daytona. Classy watch.

You should have bought that GMT at 35% discount and switched out for a blue dial. 20-20 hindsight.

Given the crazy values for the white SS Daytona I am thinking of trading it for the WG Oysterflex Ceramic Daytona with the steel-black dial. Not normally a gold person but it looks SS to the masses and that dial is one for the ages and will be a future classic, in my humble opinion.

Only the one here, Daytona black dial 116520. I can't really justify to myself having more than one Rolex when there are so many other brands with beautiful watches to hunt down.

Thank you. All watches should bring back happy memories, even Casio's!

Very happy to have added an Omega.

My fifth. My first RG. My first SkyD.

Everose Sky D incoming. The CHAO version.

One more to go (a YG DD when i turn 50). So that completes my gold varieties.

Mulling a Pt. But not completely sold on whether DD or Daytona (since would be redundant).

Three now,
Please forgive the "play " blue insert, it saves the original very faded blue / red. Timeless.

So ...

I recently picked up a 1016 (R Serial) hoping it would be my ONE AND ONLY.

And, yes, while I really don't fine myself looking at other references, now I'm looking at early gilt 1016s. Which is kind of f*ed up to be honest. I mean I could actually see myself owning multiple variants of the 1016 which I would have never forseen and is a little decadent. Kind of feel like I should crave Daytonas and the like because that's what's in fashion but I really don't. Sigh.

I love my older 3 handed (4 handed for the GMT) Rolex’s and the 1016 is on the top of my wish list. No love for the Daytona- would rather have an old Navitimer or El Primero any day. Don’t give in to the hype!
