How does the 39.5mm Planet Ocean wear vs. the Seamaster 300?

I need to see this model in the flesh. The lug to lug is what draws me to it, but seems that this watch wasn’t intended to be so small. The 37.5MM version is definitely disproportionate, but I’ve been hoping the 39 is the sweet spot.

I went back-and-fourth with the two sizes (39.5mm and 43.5mm) for a very long time. I’d to different AD’s and the OB to try them on. The bottom line for me was a diver that would look good in any situation given the size of my 17cm wrist. After 90% of these visits the 39.5mm would come out on top.

The 39.5mm looks great on the steel bracelet, the black leather strap and deployment, a NATO strap or a rubber strap. Most importantly for me, it ensured I was wearing the watch, not the watch wearing me.

I recently acquired a Seamaster 300 midsize (36mm), but I am starting to think it looks just a bit too small on my 6.8'' wrist.

I was able to visit my local Omega boutique the other day, and while they had the standard Seamaster 300 (42mm), they did not have the 39.5mm Planet Ocean for me to try (they only had the 43.5mm).

My question is, has anyone tried both the 39.5mm PO and compared it to the Seamaster 300? I'm aware that the Seamaster 300 is still a tad thinner (13.7mm if I recall on Watchbox review on YouTube?) compared to the 39.5mm PO (14.5mm thick).

I'm finding it hard to go with one vs. the other, especially not having the chance to try on the PO size that I'm looking around for. Any help would be appreciated!

I'm basically in the same situation, deciding between SMP 300 Midsize and PO (although without either watch) - let us know what you do!

I have both the watches in question.

I’ve worn a mid-size Seamaster 300m on my wrist pretty much everyday since I was 17 years old. Although my wrists aren’t particularly big (17cm-17.5cm / 6.88 inches), they’re larger than what they were nearly 20 years ago.

I spent 4 years trying to decide on the right watch and of all the ones I tried on in the authorised dealers and boutiques, I always came back to the Planet Ocean 39.5mm.

I’ll say this...of the Seamaster 300m’s I tried on during that time, the 41mm was the better fit. Don’t get me wrong, the 42mm is more aesthetically pleasing. But if your wrist size is below 7 inches, it’s a big watch. It’s the lug-to-lug distance which is the problem, jumping from 47mm (which is very well balanced) to 50mm.

Hope this information helps.

I have a 6.5-inch wrist and I just purchased the black ceramic 39.5MM PO. The lig to lug is better than the SMP for a small wrist.

The around 45mm

I was told by an OMEGA representative that the 45mm lug-to-lug spacing was to ensure the PO 39.5mm sat in the centre of ones wrist.

As I said to the OMEGA representative at the time, the lug-to-lug distance on the PO 39.5mm should measure 46.5mm to truly balance the watch out.

I have just purchased a 39.5 PO in Blue and couldn’t be happier with it.
I have a 7” wrist and it’s a great fit. Reminds me of a Submariner I had a few years ago but thicker and better IMO.
I wasn’t able to get to try on anything before buying online due to current restrictions but I’m glad I went for it.

Sorry, I meant to attach pictures of the other two watches also, just in case it’s helpful. In fairness, the 42mm didn’t actually look terrible / too big on my small wrists - but that’s probably as far as I could go - but I preferred the PO 39.5 overall.
