I found myself cannot go over 5 Watches. Normally start to sell when reach 5 because I have a hard time to justify if I really need all that many watch...

I started just over a year ago and I'm amazed at the justifications I give for keeping and collecting more watches. I started with: I "need" a chrono, a 3 hander, and a watch with a date feature. Now current "needs" are a bumper, a gold watch (which I just found), a modern waterproof watch, a pre-moon...

 

Oh you don't want to start this....

 

Too many to know for certain. Probably 110 +. Somewhere around there. Project watches? I weight those by the kilo!

I have about 25 .Even split been vintage and new . Mech wind , auto and a couple of quartz. Dress, gold, driver, Chrono if it feels right enjoy them. I have never sold any and don’t intend to either . All for the next generation to enjoy , grandkids and great grandkids.

 

Everything runs. But do I wear them all? I could, but half my collection is pocket watches, and I wear pocket watches infrequently. Of the wrist watches, maybe half of them are worn periodically, but I have a dozen or so that are my regular daily drivers. I usually wear two at a time.

Never sure how many there are. Probably one or two fewer than I want.

Need? It's not about "Need". It's about Want. In cars, a Kia Rio is "Need" and anything beyond that is "Want". The same concept applies to watches. A 3-hand Timex is need (although a cellphone also works) and anything beyond that is want. Want is merely the intersection of your desires and your budget, or so it seems to me.

 

I agree. Every time I say that there's only this one or that one another nice one that I have to have shows up! I have only sold one watch over all these years and I kind of regret it but I really wasn't ever taking it out for a spin any more.

 

Gosh, why so limited?

There's 365 days in the year....

.... so when I get to that number, I won't be able to justify acquiring any more... and I'm not even halfway there yet !!
