how best to assess value of friend's SMP 300?

a good friend is looking to sell his omega SMP. perhaps to me.
it is steel on steel bracelet, wavy black face and has the sword hands and big 12 o clock inverted triangle marker. scalloped bezel (i love this version of this watch, aesthetically)

NOT the skeleton hands and dots for hour markers.
does this make it "pre-bond?"

how best to accurately assess a trade value?
it has no box/papers, definitely has some 'character.' but rarely worn.
not sure about any previous servicing.

how do i check for 'stretch' or other things i've read about regarding the clasp and bracelet.

i will get S/N and check for what movement is in it.
and will try to get pics for further advice.
ebay has not been too helpful b/c most have boxes and papers.

thanks for any help.

Message @WatchVaultNYC , he will give you the exact answer...he deals in them, and has a pulse on the market.

My gut, maybe $1250-1500? No BPs, service, and some wear, I would probably be closer to $1000-1250 range.

They usually go for what @jcmartinez98 said. They are nice looking watches but the wear(on my wrist) is not comfortable.

one data source may be "sold items" on eBay

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...salic=1&_sop=15&_dmd=1&_ipg=100&LH_Complete=1

this shows a $1300-2500 range for 2254.50, you must then compare apples to apples, e.g. overall condition, does it come w/box & cards? service, etc.

yes, @WatchVaultNYC would be another source for recent pricing...

I bought one for a friend last November. One owner, bought in 2004, 100% OEM complete, no hits, runs or errors. Paid $1,800.US certified check delivered. It just returned from a complete service ($450.US total insured shipping both ways) that included a couple of worn parts. This all adds up to $2,250.US That being said, these complete sets seem to be selling for more than $2,250.US before a new service.

Also check (if you hadn't already) whether it's the quartz or auto version as they look almost the same. The auto version, 2254.50 which tends to attract higher prices will have "chronometer" written on the dial, the quartz 2264.50 won't.

That having been said, both are very classy watches 😉

I just bought one in excellent condition on this forum. In my search I found that the 2254.50.00 went for about $2000-2250 if it had the box/papers/cards and good service history.

it was a MI6 survivability requirement, the hands provide another mean for the agent's self defense..

I use eBay for this too. It provides a general idea of what buyers are willing to pay.

Omega offered both versions in their line up. The Bond with skeleton hands was only 1 of the products in the SMP line up. The 2254.50 was available right up to the 2005 coaxial 2500 watches.
That paticular watch has what is called the 1120 movement. It is known for being a reliable workhorse and easy to service. Basically a modified ETA 2892-A2 with a few tweeks from omega, renamed the 1120 and COSC certified.

You can't go wrong with this watch.

That is really wonderful to hear. So I don't have to worry about the 2500 ABCD versions with whatever their "issues" are?

That's interesting to hear. Was it the bracelet that was the problem or something about the watch per se.?
I don't love bracelets, and will probably switch it out onto A NATO or black rubber strap.

Thanks for input

Here are pics:

Some wear and tear in the case and bracelet

Dial looks pretty great, as does the crystal.

"Anti-counterfeit" logo is present

Friend received it as a gift from his company for employee of the year 8-9 years ago. Didn't remember the box or papers, but I don't doubt its authenticity. Does anyone have concerns?

Does this view of the bracelet tell anyone about the stretch? The clasp is a little wonky and doesn't click very well or consistently.

Where is the serial number!!!!???
