Hours register on Ref. 3590.50 keeps coming off

Hours register on my Ref. 3590.50 has come off 3 times. The counterperson at my local watchmaker (Omega AD) did not relay to the watchmaker that it was a 3 time repeat repair. They said "if it happens again" they will need to send it to Omega. That sounds like an expensive proposition. What is likely happening here?

To clarify im talking about the hand coming off the shaft. Usually due to resetting the chronograph

Hand needs to be replaced or a talented and careful watchmaker can crimp the hand hole to tighten the fit to the pinion. The latter typically risks chipping the paint.

Done carefully the paint should be OK. I've saved a few by putting the pipe of the hand into a suitably sized lathe collet and compressing the pipe slightly. The collet provides 3 radial compression areas so is much better than squeezing with pliers.

Agree. I've done the same to crimp a Miyota 9015 seconds hand.

The hour recording hand should be replaced. Crimping this particular one will be difficult for a couple of reasons. The pipe section on this is much shorter than on other hands, and is also has a much thicker wall. So there's not much to grip onto, and the wall thickness is heavy, so it requires a lot of pressure that can easily go too far.

Not saying it can't be done, but replacement is the usual solution.

I wouldn't even consider trying to crimp the hand. It needs to be replaced. Period.

Replacing the hand seems like it could be a job for a competent watchmaker and not need a trim to Omega?

Yes, if you have a replacement hand for the watchmaker to use, unless he is an Omega certified watchmaker, in that case he may be able to order the hand for you.
