Was just reading through Hodinkee (don't judge me) and saw their Marc Newson Hourglass - it's really something! There's a more interesting video of the glassblowing construction on his own website at http://marc-newson.com/hourglass/ when he released it for Ikepod.

Barring divorce I'm in no position to fork over 12k for the thing, but I wonder if anyone knows of any decent hourglasses in a similar style?

So, does it give you a hard or soft egg?

10 minutes I googled what can you do in ten minutes i was told to vacuum the house and write a thank you letter to a friend or look at an old family album... or this was interesting

Turn your watch into a compass:
Hold your watch horizontally and point it so that the hour hand is facing into the sun. At the center point between the 12 and the hour hand is your north/south line, with north facing away from the sun. So if the hour hand is pointing at 4, for example, the 2 would point towards the south and the 8 would point towards the north.

Just remember, this only works in the Northern Hemisphere; and during Daylight Savings Time you would use the 1 instead of the 12 to determine the center line. If you’re in the Southern Hemisphere, orient the 12 directly towards the sun, and the north/south line will still cut directly between the 12 and the hour hand, but north will be closest to the sun.

    VERY HARD EGG

    The Ultimate Hourglass Timers
Esington Glass takes the hourglass to new heights. These timers and art pieces aren't just handblown from a single piece of glass — instead of sand, they're filled with steel nano-spheres, which, when pouring into and bouncing against the precise wide base, create a white noise perfect for increasing focus. Whether you're using them to increase your productivity or are looking for a timeless piece of décor, Esington Glass is the choice for you.

and they are hand blown but they dont cost 12k..

If the interior has balls, is the exterior known as the scrotum?
Does it come with a furry travel pouch?

I think this need vindicating with an answer and is not in anyway rhetorical, Medium size with copper plate beads thats $11,920 cheaper or 99.33% cheaper OR you could buy 150 of them

My thinking on many topics tends to align with Marco the majority of the time. He's become a bit of a watch-nerd himself, albeit his focus is apparently Nomos-only.
