Every watch I have ever bought over the internet.
I was comfortably prepared to loose the coin. (could deal with loosing it no issue)
Every watch I wasn’t I bought from bricks and mortar stores.

$29k I would fly to anywhere in the world

that’s just the first victim. Another guy gave Chris 60 big ones to hold for more than 6 months and never saw any watches.

Without wanting to appear that I’m victim blaming, because I would have somewhat trusted this guy based on his rep, I couldn’t foresee a situation where I would wire $60k to a dude I’ve never met.

Maybe it’s different for people with more disposable income than me but I think this is a good lesson for everyone about getting complacent about people you strike up relationships with online.

Thanks for sharing! Equally disgusting is how he invoked both the brush fires in Australia (which he claimed took his parents’ house) and the volcano explosion in New Zealand (where he said some of his friends went missing) to buy time for his scam.

What a clown... taking advantage of customers, hiding behind the bush fires, not even thorough enough to lie properly about ParcelPro...

some people man, wtf did he think was going to happen 😕

also as scummy as his behavior is (? was?), i know 10 year olds who can lie better

EDIT: I feel bad for the people who were dealing with it quietly and might not get any of their money back... jeez... and to be tormented that long too, hopefully they didn't spread themselves too thin purchasing from him 🙁

EDIT 2: Would recommend reading the original thread in full, plenty of other people started chiming in too with their experiences

Thanks for bringing this to light. I can't imagine how anxious his buyers must be until they confirm whether their purchases were legit. It beggars belief how he could have held down a full time professional job while doing all this on the side unless that's also a con.

Life is stranger than fiction. About 25 years ago when I was living in northern NJ I became aware of an antique clock dealer in Springlake, NJ, down on the Jersey shore. The owner had built a two story neo-classical building to house, display and sell antique, European clocks. It was magnificent, with clocks going up to the $300,000 range by Breguet and other European masters. He was considered the top antique clock dealer in the US. I have about five clocks from him. He was the nicest guy, always willing to help you learn about antique clocks. He was a senior VP in charge of marketing for a large multi-national chemical firm and this was just his hobby he told me. His wife and son-in-law were also in the business. Then the news broke, he had financed his operation by embezzling over $12 million dollars over a period of years from his employer via fake invoices which he was authorized to approve. He was out of the office one day when one of the fake invoices came in, an audit ensued and the scam was exposed. Obviously he was fired immediately, and his company didn't want the bad publicity, they just wanted their money back. All his clocks were sold at two auctions at Sotheby's, one in NY and one in London. About $13 million was raised which went back to the company. His court appointed psychiatrist determined he knew he was doing wrong but he had such an impulse to 'save' these clocks that he couldn't help himself. Right. He spent 18 months or so in prison making license plates. The Feds got him on two charges: wire fraud and not declaring the money on his income tax returns (same thing as Al Capone). There are scamsters and crooks all over the place, just watch an episode or two of American Greed to see how smooth some of them can be. In this case the clocks were as advertised, they were just illegally obtained.

The last page currently quotes a pretty good summary (which was posted earlier in the thread)
and which page is that?...

Who knows at this point. Look at the time I posted and you should be able to find the page from the times of posts there. I doubt it’s more than 5 pages back. The transcript posted in this thread is more enlightening on the one case but extrapolate it out to many similar stories emerging since then.

Well I am happy that the scammed party kept his cool , got his money back and gathered evidence and only then posted his account of what happened.

As many have pointed out , this probably wasn't the scammers first rodeo. I am glad this got exposed although I don't think many will be getting reimbursed.

He's now taken down his Youtube channel. It's a strange one. His videos are really good, I think he's a photographer by trade, and he's the only person so far to get a platinum 321 to review.

Well, it seems there are quite a few out there who have been duped - read the TRF thread. It’s getting longer by the hour.

it’s hard to understand as he had a reasonable following. What I don’t get is if the Daytona issue was real and he couldn’t supply what had been promised, just send the refund and let that be that - instead he sends a fake one. I suspect the Daytona money was being used to reimburse others as the queries mounted

It’s going to run and run I think. I suspect mr Essery will be having his collar felt at some point!
